Nar Kanji - Five Syndicates Slave Operation
latest

Jablogian Slave Master

No matter the size of your gang, someone always wanted to elbow their way into your turf. Whether it was the big guy crushing the little guys or the little guy hoping the big guy won't notice (or care). The Hutts were the big guys no matter how you tried to measure it. Jora had found working for them to be quite lucrative so far and intended to keep herself in their good graces for now. Nar Kanji wasn't important enough to send enforcers, so a failure here would be unnoticed but a victory would be a mark of merit. The perfect spot to try to gain some scraps of notoriety. These Trandoshans were hoping the Hutt Cartel would ignore them, but they wouldn't be so lucky.

A few guards lined the walls of the slaver camp and a couple lookout towers were propped up at the east and west ends. It was a fairly simple operation that usually didn't require much security. Groussh and his band of Trandoshans must have become tired of Wookiees, or perhaps were not skilled enough for that hunt. They had begun harassing the Hutt-operated slavers and picking off slaves. They threatened to overturn the entire industry on the planet if they were not dealt with properly. War had broken out in the streets and they needed to track down where the Trandoshans were hiding out.

The Codru-ji girl had arrived as early as possible thanks to her personal ship. Syndicate holdings gave her a protected place to dock the ship right inside the main slaver camp. Her speeder truck undocked from the ship and the two Syndicate representatives headed towards the camp gates. Besides Jora, there was also a Hutt of lower standing looking to improve his standing. No one had said he was in charge, but she sort of assumed that Skelgok was the lead for this little operation. They sped towards the gates and out towards the city, the Hutt using the cargo bed rather than the small passenger seat.

Once the the pair reached the center of the local town, Jora stepped off the truck and kicked the lever to lower the cargo bed. She pulled a cloak around herself, hiding her lower arms inside as well as most of her armor and weapons. A pair of pistols at her hips and the blade tucked at the back were well outside of view. Her hair draped over her pointed ears, completing the 'disguise' of being a regular human girl walking the streets. A small droid floated alongside her as well.

"Well, Poe, keep an eye out for trouble." Jora said to the little ball floating next to her before turning to Skelgok the Hutt. "Any thoughts on where to begin?"

Nar Kanji was a rough planet even by Hutt standards but even the most heinous of activities could be overlooked for the right price which was often the case in the cartel. As it turned out, another criminal gang thought the same thing and had begun moving into the business themselves. While the Hutt's worked within the Five Syndicates infrastructure, there was little appetite for sharing business with outside criminal gangs, the only reasonable outcome was termination.

Skelgok hummed a short Huttese tune to himself as the vessel descended into view of the main slaver camp, he knew at least that this situation wouldn't be something that he faced alone. While his mammoth size could be fairly intimidating, sometimes a little flexibility was called for in these types of negotiations which obviously wasn't his strong point.

Although they had travelled together, the pair hadn't exactly spoken very much outside of mission perimeters. At the very least this ordeal would test both their negotiating skills and their ability to work together in a hostile environment. The large Hutt preferred not to be engaged in a non-favourable fire fight owing to his lack of battle armour, but he would sling a rifle and pistol just for good measure as it never hurt for showing off. Finally, they had arrived at their destination and both peered across the terrain and considered their options.

"Ideally? Why not start with taking out their leader. I would wager that prick is holding the whole operation on his own shoulders and without him their little gang will scatter back into the shadows and let us reclaim what is rightfully m... ours. We'll have to approach this carefully, if he figures out whom we are before we're ready we'll be in trouble but perhaps we can lure him out somehow.

The ruthless trashcan's weakness is he wants to disrupt the Syndicate, if we can con him into something perhaps we can take him out there?"

Rachel wasn't all too familiar with how criminal operations ran at all, which is saying something for a sector ranger. She understood the basics which were as follows: the Five Syndicates are crime lords who run most major criminal operations in the galaxy, one of the organizations being the Hutts. The Hutts have their hands in all sorts of pies, including slavery, something Rachel hates more than most other crimes. Normally she's forced to not kick down the door of every slaver she finds and drag them around the Outer rim by their feet for multiple reasons, one of them being going after the Five Syndicates is a daunting task no one ranger can handle. But she's not going after the Five Syndicates this time, she's going after some low levels who've nosed into their territory.

She wasn't alone this time, she dragged Leon into it seeing as how he owed her one and they work pretty good together. They also got the assistance of that hunter they worked with a while ago, Cass. She was sitting on a rooftop on lookout near the slaver camp, using her scouting HUD to keep a watch on the camp, one of the most irritatingly boring tasks you could get in an operation like this.
"Nothing for the past few hours, this is getting kinda boring. We could always kick down the door and go in blasters a blazing.." She wouldn't admit this, but she just really didn't want to have to load slug rounds into another person. At least with blasters she could use stun rounds. She loaded her cycler rifle and kept it on hand as she kept watch. Okay, I got about 29 shots left, I need to go to Tatooine to pick up some more after this. She thought to herself as she loaded the rounds into her utility belt. The pistols on her hips might not get to see any use just yet, and that made Rachel a bit antsy. "I'll keep an eye out, you two got some kind of plan for getting to those pirates?"

It was then that she caught sight of something that kind of made her snicker. A Hutt, riding on the cargo bed of a speeder truck nearby. She tried not to let it distract her but it was a bit funny. Look at how big those things are, gigantic. Too big to even fit inside of a speeder huh? That's pretty funny. She turned away from the truck as it began to stop nearby and a young woman she couldn't really identify came out. She had to keep her mind focused, she had already killed once but she needed to prepare for the possibility of doing it again. Maybe it was easier after the first time, she kind of hoped not.

Leon knelt close to Rachel, using his scout hud to survey the slaver camp that was laid out before him. Normally he would asked for more back up for something this large, but they got they got. Rachel, himself, and the Mandalorian Bounty hunter Anvil they had met back on Rishi. They lucked into running into her here on Nar Kanji and enlisted her help. Rachel had expressed her dislike for being overwatch, but for the plan he had worked out, she would be more use here than down there with him and Anvil.

"Easy. Anvil parades me down there in cuffs and see if those slavers have use for a new slave. We draw out the boss and then take em down. He spoke as if the plan would go down without a hitch but he knew any plan was only good up to first contact. He removed his scout hud and stood. "Once the boss is down, the rest should fold pretty easy." He drew his Frontier-90 and then tucks it into the back of his belt under his jacket before taking a pair of durasteel binders and tossing them to Anvil. He had modified them so he could remove them when he needed to. Just then a speeder truck went by their location carrying a Hutt. Figuring this was a good time as any, he pats Rachel on the shoulder and then nods at Anvil. "Let's get this party started. Once we're down, throw those binders on me and march me into that slave camp. Voxx, stay here and keep an eye on things." The seeker droid twills a response and hovers near Rachel. With that he makes way down to street and waits for Anvil.

One lay down, one knelt, and one sat in a lotus position flicking the tip of her vibroknife against a thumb. In the HUD of her helmet, she could see everything that she needed to see with her own two eyes, in conjunction with the surveying efforts of her two companions, temporary though they might be. On the planet Rishi, the Rangers had met the bounty hunter for the first time, and while the former two seemed to know each other well enough, neither of them really knew the latter, and she didn’t really know them. I know enough to trust the male Ranger to trust me enough to lead him down to a slaver’s camp in handcuffs, at least. She thought about the unfolding of that plan as Rachel asked for one and Leon divulged.

“Easy”. That’s twice he said it. Certainly, the plan was simple, if not necessarily easy—a rather distinct difference in wording that not many were able to comprehend. Still, this was a Sector Ranger and, in the bounty hunter’s experience, Rangers were nothing if not cocky. They had to have a measure of elevated bravery in order to do what they did in a galaxy like theirs. Casany Praxor carried herself with courage as much as the next survivor in a universe that catered to death, and she lived better than the bounties she dragged into jail, but this would be the first time that she ever brought in a Sector Ranger. First time for everything. I wonder if it will be the last…

Catching the binders, Cass sheathed her knife and made to move with Leon, but tilted her helmeted head at him first. “When I met you, I leveled a gun with your chest. Now I’ll be holding one to your back. The universe is funny like that, I guess.” With that, she unfurled her crossed legs and stood beside her would-be prisoner and the moments of freedom he had left, looking from this person to that droid.

“Rawl, keep an eye on Voxx.” The droid beep-booped his compliance. “Rachel, if you have to shoot…” The Mandalorian paused, letting the black T in her visor loom over the Ranger’s visage. “...Shoot to kill.”

Moments later, Leon and Cass descended the rooftop and made their way toward the camp, one walking in restraints and the other marching him forward with a rifle leveled at her hip and aimed at his back. Moments more and the slaver camp’s lookouts would be able to make out the pair without much mistake for the image even from far away.

“Hey,” Cass called to get Leon’s attention from behind as they ambled forward. “So, word has it that Sector Rangers are worth a catchy credit. And here I am leading one at gunpoint toward a band of slavers, wondering how much they’d actually pay me for you…and how convenient this plan actually is for me.” She hoped to let a moment linger and capitalize on the tension. “Kidding." Her lips spread in place of laughter. "They’d probably pay more for a Mandalorian.”

Town was fairly alive for the day with activity of all sorts. Even then a Trandoshan would stand out among a crowd. Jora knew the Hutt beside her wouldn't exactly be subtle either though. She was unsure if that would mean they'd be attacked or totally avoided. Being attacked would certainly have made finding these losers easier, but it seemed they'd have to hunt a little. The little seeker droid was already on the job as it quietly hovered above their heads scanning for their prey or anything to be after them. Poe had always been a reliable friend. That little guy would find them a target in no time.

"Poe has something, a Trandoshan skulking in the alleyway over there." She relayed to her Hutt partner before she casually began moving through the streets that direction.

Her blasters quietly came off her hip as the Codru-ji woman approached. Jora's lower arms held the weapons within the closed cloak still away from view while the top arms played it casual. She didn't like leaving the camp without her protection while searching, so she wanted to get this information quickly. That meant by any means necessary. The lizard seemed to be scouting the streets for targets. That wasn't good considering the large, obvious Hutt that had come to the area with her. If he spotted the Hutt, he'd call for help most likely.

"Stay back." She mouthed back to Skelgok while waving him to stay to the side as she turned into the alleyway and spoke out loud. "Excuse me? Do you know where the bakery is from here?"

"Get lossst!" The Trandoshan said, turning to push the woman away with one scaly hand.

"I don't think so." Jora hissed back, shoving a blaster against her foe through the cloth. "Where's your boss? My friend and I would like a word with him."

Poe beeped in quiet warning that they might be being watched before, but in the alleyway they would be safe from prying eyes. A simple head nod told the droid to watch their backs for any incoming trouble. The tiny droid would blend in with the chaos of the city while making sure no one else came into the alleyway unseen. Jora kept eye contact with the Trandoshan, finger tight on the trigger ready to end him if he tried anything funny. Skelgok would slither in soon most likely, and that pressure might just break the poor guy.

The mission hardly called for subtly, in fact the cartel would probably prefer quite a visible resolution to this little problem that had sprung up. Still, it would be incredibly foolish to just rush into the slave camp together without any attempt to first gather intelligence and failing that, then perhaps it would call for some callous blasting. It didn't take long for their first lead to pop up as Jora's droid alerted to the presence of at least one of their quarry, hopefully this one would be easily fooled.

"Fine." Skelgok shrugged in response. He didn't need to get stuck in an alley anyway, and he could easily listen into their conversation with their linked comm units. In the meantime the larger than life Hutt made little noise and kept to himself, the hustle and bustle of the street ensured that even a scuffle would mostly be masked by the commotion. Through the comm, he could hear the laughing hiss of a Trandoshan in response to his colleagues demands.

"Ahaha you foolssss, we will have you in chainssss by nightfall, if you survive! I am sure a pretty one such as yourself will fetch a nice price yessss?"

It didn't seem that Jora's implied or actual threat was likely to make him spill the beans all on its own. It would appear that this part of the mission did indeed call for both beauty and beast and therefore Skelgok against the advice of Jora, moved in. The towering Hutt hardly went unnoticed as he stood well above both of them menacingly, the doshan suddenly winced and paused before trying to continue.

"You're too late to stop ussss, Groussh will be radio silent by now. You should leave with the slavesss you still have before he enslavesss you both!" Pausing for a second, Skelgok glanced down at Jora as they both came to the same conclusion at the same time. The band of Trandoshan outlaws were poised to attack the Slave Camp, and they were still in town a short distance away.

"We need to get to the Slave Camp, NOW!" he shouted commandingly.

Easy. Yeah, sure it'll be a walk through Naboo. Rachel thought as she took notes of the people coming and walking out. She adjusted herself constantly as Leon spoke, she didn't like this plan too much, especially the whole part about walking him up there with a big 'all yours' sign on his back. "Easy, just be sure to make it past part one yeah?" Rachel smirked as she spoke, her voice filled with sarcasm. She was sure they'd make it out regardless, though she had a hard time trusting their third member, Anvil.

"Oh I'll shoot if I need to and how I need to, you just be sure to bring both your hides back here." She spoke with a somewhat stern tone, mostly due to her mixed review of the Mandalorian. She'd later admit to herself that she was just a little bit sour at how she'd been called out, but right now she was just mad. "Maybe I should get a droid? Nah not too into the tech." She then waved them off as they made their way down.

She watched them walk towards the camp with the words from the Mandalorian going around the back of her skull. Shoot to kill, you gotta do it Rach. She just kept her rifle steady as she watched the pair walk off, following them with her rifle and keeping her mind focused on the mission.

Leon marched on in front of Anvil, his hands bound behind his back. His head was down and his shoulders slumped, trying to look the part of a captured soon to be slave. Anvil made a wisecrack about actually selling him instead of going along with the plan. Thankfully, he could hear the soft chuckle, making him believe it was just a simple joke and not her actual plan. It wasn’t a great plan, sure. But it’s the best he could come up with given what he had. The pair trudged slowly toward the slave camp and though Leon had kept his head down, his eyes were working just fine. They pass an alley and without turning his head, Leon was able to see a group of well armed Trandoshians, making their way out of the other side of the alley and then turning the same direction that He and Avil were going.

There had been some unrest here of late, which is why they decided to hit the Hutt Slaver’s now. In the chaos of a rival gang wanting to take over the slave trade here, it seemed like a good time for the Rangers to step in and put a stop to it. Passing another alley, Leon hazards a glance. The original group of Trandoshians had nearly doubled in size. Great. We picked the same day the Trandoshian’s did to take the slave camp. He glances around and then in a move attempting to avoid full blown exposure he turns and darts down an alley that the Trandoshians had already passed, hoping it would look more like him trying to escape his captor. Once in the alley, he ‘trips’ and falls to the ground.

”We have a problem. Trandoshian’s are in bound. They’re attacking the compound. Any ideas on a new plan?” He says quickly into his comlink to his partner’s. By this time, if Anvil had played along with his ruse She would of been on top of him by now. He was prepared to take a couple hits to keep up the ruse, but hopefully she would take it easy on him.

Traveling along the miserable realm of Nar Kanji, Cass wondered how any of the sorry souls who lived under whip and lash called it living. Hutts, Trandoshans, or anyone else—no one had the right to own anyone else. What troubled her was how anyone could put up with another even trying to. I’m not sure what’s worse. The slaver or the slave. Generally, the oppressed outnumbered the oppressor, and it wouldn’t take much to rise up and overthrow. Even one, though. One individual. One person to say “Enough is enough. I’m not your property. I'm your executioner.” In this world of bondage, though, it was not meant to be.

Trandoshans flocked to pluck the eggs and lay their own in this nest, like those marching from the other side of the alley. Moments later and there were more of them. Leon was quick to think on his feet, then off his feet. Cass watched her ‘prisoner’ attempt to flee, like a no-good rotten slave, recognizing the ruse immediately. Makes sense. I’d run from me too. She aimed her blaster at his back, but thought better about putting a bolt in it or firing the weapon at all. Instead, she bolted after him, giving the Trandoshans another look through her visor beforehand.

By the time she reached him, Leon lay on the dank and dirty ground of the alley, having fallen somewhat unceremoniously on his own account. She didn’t respond to his words outright. The invading force nearby appeared to press on without noticing the pair or caring about them, so the Ranger had played the correct card, at least. Oops, spoke too soon. Turning her head just enough, she spotted a Trandoshan standing at the end of the alley with his head tilted and a rifle over his shoulder, watching the Mandalorian and her catch like one watches a predator to make sure that it eats its prey. Cass got the message.

One well-placed boot toward his side resulted in a kick that would hurt more than it would damage, particularly if her boot connected with any armor. “Kriffing scum!” She blurted out loud, extending another kick for good measure. “Try that again and I’ll take your feet.” She thought about kicking him again, but decided against it, turning to her audience with a headshake.

“Can’t find good help these days, am I right!? I should have captured a Wookiee. That way, if I had to kill it, at least I’d have a rug for my troubles.”

That made the Trandoshan chuckle something horrible, though any other horrible ideas he might have had were now replaced with amusement and loss of interest as he skulked away to rejoin the Pillage Patrol. With that, Cass looked down at Leon. “Sorry.” She offered calmly. “For what it’s worth, I held back.” She moved to help him to his feet. Good thing I stopped myself. Seems I still have this kind of life boiling somewhere inside me.

“I’ve got two heads to hunt,” Cass began in response to Leon’s comm call, keeping Rachel on the shared channel. “A reptile’s and a slug’s. If they’re both about to meet each other at the gate then I say we introduce ourselves from behind.” They won’t see us coming. No need to pretend if you’re not being watched. “Or we let them wipe each other out and bag what’s left. I can take my bounties in dead or alive. Guessing you Rangers need proof of death at the very least.” She shrugged.
