DESCRIPTION
The RZ-2 A-Wing is a strike starfighter/interceptor developed by Kuat Systems Engineering as a successor to the original RZ-1 A-Wing of Galactic Civil War vintage. Essentially standardizing a number of field modifications made to Rebel Alliance A-Wings during the war, the RZ-2 incorporates a slightly longer fuselage design, which improves aerodynamics and improves handling, making the A-Wing's notoriously sensitive controls at least slightly more manageable. Top speed is also slightly improved, topping out at 125 MGLT compared to the original's 120. As with the RZ-1, the RZ-2's twin light laser cannons are fitted to fully rotating barbette mounts, allowing the pilot to shoot at targets above, below and behind as well as in front. Manipulating the cannons in flight takes some skill, however RZ-2 pilots tend to be the best of the best.

The RZ-2 originally entered service with the New Republic Defense Fleet about 7 years after the Battle of Yavin. Though it served with distinction, the type was in the process of being phased out by the time of the First Order-Resistance war, and some surplus examples found their way onto the open market. A few were operated by the Resistance, while others were passed on to planetary defense forces, law enforcement agencies, mercenaries and private citizens. The RZ-2 is fairly rare over a century later, and understandably so.

Due to the nature of their systems, A-Wings reject most aftermarket upgrade packages.

LEGALITY
Restricted. RZ-2 A-Wings are starfighters, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To create a standard fast starfighter.

RESTRICTIONS
The RZ-2 A-Wing, despite its age, is a highly capable fighter, and a difficult one to find. A-Wings also cannot be upgraded with aftermarket modifications.
