NAME Roland Rook AGE 30~ RANK Captain FACTION Sector Rangers

CHARACTERISTICS
SPECIES:
Human (Mandalorian)
FORCE SENSITIVE:
No
HEIGHT:
6' 3"
BUILD:
Cut / 190 lbs~
HAIR COLOR:
Unknown
The name Rook is not an unknown Mandalorian clan though most galactic citizens can't tell the difference between them. Roland Rook however began life with a different surname. The product of an illegitimate birth by normal standards his earliest memories were of days as a slave in the outer rim. Supposedly he had not been born a slave. But early on his mother ended up an indentured servant and he was as well. They lived somewhere along the kessel run. Supposedly his family had been the target of Crimson Dawn.

A raid on his master's spice transport resulted in his mother and him being separated. The young slave ended up in the hands of the raiders along with the lion's share of spice. Some of the spice transporters survived and escaped along with Roland's biological mother. The ones that raided the vessel were Mandalorian. One simply offered the slave that he could join them or hop off at the earliest opportunity. At least, something along those lines. Roland was mostly just taken at that point.

Among the Mandalorians he remained in the tight knit group. But life was not easy. As time went on Roland came to realize that most of the Mandalorians were not the same as his own adoptive father who resorted to piracy and other methods of making money. He was a criminal and was hard on Roland.

The sister of the Roland's adoptive mother was the most supportive of him and was probably the biggest positive influence in his young life. When he became a legal adult he ended up trying his hand at bounty hunting. However Roland did not take down his intended target. Instead, his target was caught and captured by a Sector Ranger who had been hunting the fugitive for crimes. The young Roland expressed his dislike for crime and corruption. The Ranger, Otto Talask, took to liking the him since he was not just some bounty hunter wannabe. Taking him under his wing the young Mandalorian would go on to join the Sector Rangers.

---
Sticking mostly to the outer rim, life as a Mandalorian as well as a Sector Ranger have kept him busy but lacking in many exciting accomplishments. Whether by design or not, Roland has gone without much renown. With the Mandalorians as a people having a long history there are plenty of people even among the Sector Rangers who might harbor negative feelings for himself and his people. On the side Roland has pursued trying to find his nomadic clan as he since he last saw them when he left without saying a word.

Participating early on in the Arcanist investigation, Roland traveled began frequently traveling between Nar Shaddaa, Naboo and Coruscant on a regular basis. When there was an attack on the Coruscant Prison, Roland responded quickly and faced off against a Knight of Ren. Being the first non-force sensitive to defeat a Sith in over a hundred years he also managed to wrangle the astromech piloted starfighter the cultist had arrived in. The information from the astromech provided information on the whereabouts of the Sith Temple on Bal'demnic.

Earning a promotion, Lieutenant Rook would lead Rangers in the field and in training exercise. Distinguishing himself in systems like Fondor, Circarpous, and Mandalore, the Mandalorian would also make an effort to work in part with the Jedi Order. Jedi like Hannibal Grayza, Maxims Tionson and Indyana Sati are some to name a few. On Mandalore, Roland witnessed the shared mass illusory event and from then made an effort to look into potentially dangerous artifacts and lost knowledge the Sith might use to plague the galaxy again.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Roland is a man who tries his best too seem like a hospitable gentleman. Manners and diplomacy must be exercised before force in his eyes. His own personal history with injustice and crime has made him believe strongly in abiding by the law as best as possible and doing what is right. A man of principle, he can often be considered stubborn and even old fashioned. While most Mandalorians only care about others of their own kind Roland has a broader outlook. Roland has a mix of newer-age open mindedness as well as a certain traditional charm to his character along with a sense of honorable humility. Roland has developed his stance as a bit of a gunslinger, though still a man of honor given the holo-vids he loved in his youth. Considering himself a galactic citizen as well as a Mandalorian, his duality as a law enforcement officer as well as a warrior of Mandalore, it sometimes puts him at odds even with his own people. To him, traveling the outer rim with his freedom and an honest job sustains him well enough for the most part.

@Corran Velt : One of the younger Rangers Roland trained earlier on in his career as a Lieutenant himself.. Corran is a hard working law officer and Lt with potential to go further.

@Dr Ilana Morata : Originally meeting one another in duplicitious circumstances, their interactions are friendly at best.

@Indy Sati : Roland's romantic interest. Numerous excursions to dangerous and exotic locales have allowed Roland to get to know the Pantoran Jedi Master to where they are now.

Otto Talask (npc): A retired Sector Ranger, Otto has been a long time friend and mentor to Roland.

The consistency with the description + legality on the mando armor along with the tail end of your biography doesn't seem right. So, your character went to Coruscant College of Law . Fine. But then your character believes in 'the way', rarely takes off his helmet. Yet in the legality of the armor this would pretty much be impossible, considering it's illegal. [/thinking]

I was thinking of expanding on it and go through the legal means to get a permit or special paperwork that classifies his armor as religious clothing. If it needs to be that he has no "illegal or unsafe" armor functions to be within regulations I can adjust that.

To get religious exemptions people would typically need to show conviction in the faith. Is going to Law School really the way?

To be honest showing up with full mando armor to law school, or just the full helmet is very unlikely to fly in a place like Coruscant. If you want the cool factor of having your character be a stanch believer of 'The Way' then you can't just take the good without taking the negative that comes along it, or there would need to be a compromise with your character's beliefs.

This drives many strict adherents of "the way" to operate exclusively on the fringes of the galaxy.

This part of your armor (as well as the stock mando armor's) legality isn't just there for show.

With that being said, a Mandalorian sector ranger is possible and you don't have to to go law school either. I advise taking a different route.

Is it possible for someone to be a Sector Ranger and still have the anonymity of "The Way"? That's the more important part than law school for sure so if that needs to get dropped and his arrival at a career as a Ranger can be altered. I'm just unfamiliar I guess with what is the prerequisites for being a Ranger. Aside from 'background checks' I'm not entirely sure what else that entails.

I think it's fine (Rangers are diverse .etc .etc). So just change your avenue to joining them something more plausible then you should be all set. Maybe after helping out a ranger group on the fringes your character helped them take care of a baddie and after admiring what the Rangers do, he wanted to join them and the rangers helped him get in the Rangers (you don't need to go to law school or any special academy)

That's just a suggestion you don't have to follow through with it. Anyways, when you are ready for me to take another look at this tag me.

I have edited the biography to reflect the requested changes. I also expanded a little on his personality but nothing that was not already expressed.
