DESCRIPTION
The MC80 star cruiser is a powerful warship originally manufactured by the famed Mon Calamari Shipyards of Dac, and famously used during the Galactic Civil War by the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Among the largest ships in the Rebel fleet, it was also one of the most advanced capital ships in the Galaxy in its day, a title it held for decades even after the war.

One of the first ships selected by the Mon Calamari leadership to be converted to military service after Dac committed itself to the Rebellion, the MC80 was originally designed as a heavy passenger liner and colony ship to complement its sister class, the MC80A, which was designed for deep-space exploration. This being said, the type took well to its new purpose; many turbolasers, ion cannons and anti-starfighter weapons were mounted in casemates scattered across the ship's hull, making the MC80 extremely well protected in almost all directions. Despite this, the ship's crew complement was unusually small for its size; extensive use of automation and high-efficiency machinery reduced the total required crew to just 1,400, although an additional 4,000 were recommended in order to man weapons, perform damage control and operate other combat-critical systems. In addition, 8,000 passengers could be carried, as well as up to 30,000 tons of cargo.

Unlike the MC80A, which could carry a staggering 10 squadrons of starfighters, the MC80, being designed as a transport, could only manage 3, plus about a dozen shuttles or other support craft. Due to this, the MC80 was typically used as an escort class, working in concert with MC80As and other carrier ships during fleet operations. This was not to say the type could not operate independently, but it was typically not expected to get stuck in with the likes of an Imperial I or II in a 1-on-1 brawl. They were, of course, holy terror against Imperial cruisers and frigates, and were deployed accordingly.

Though commonly referred to as star cruisers, MC80s are more correctly classified as star destroyers under the Anaxes War College category system.

The MC80 has had a long and illustrious service career. One of the first large warships operated by the Alliance to Restore the Republic which could match the firepower of Imperial designs, the MC80 was a nasty surprise for the Empire's navy, and was one of the key factors in the Rebellion's victory. Many MC80s went on to serve the New Republic, and those that survived military downsizing and the Hosnian Cataclysm were passed on to various sector governments and planetary militias.

MC80s are relatively rare in this current era of peace, as are most large warships. Though many were actually converted back into lightly armed passenger liners, as originally intended, some did remain as warships, and today serve various sector fleets and even some planetary governments wealthy enough to maintain them. On the whole, they are not as common as Imperial designs, as not nearly as many were produced overall, but they are more desirable due to their reduced crew requirements.

LEGALITY
Restricted. MC80 star cruisers are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities. Even then, they are ridiculously expensive to operate; only a relatively large faction or particularly wealthy government would be able to afford it without swiftly bankrupting themselves. An individual would stand no chance.

INTENT
To create a standard star destroyer.

RESTRICTIONS
MC80 Star Crusiers are large capital ships with heavy weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. A faction would be required to obtain and crew a ship of this size.
