The Kitex were a humanoid species that lived in asteroid belts and other orbital objects. Known to be reclusive and slow to trust, the Kitex survived through a combination of cautiousness and secrecy.

Biology:

Diminutive, Kitex were a lean species with wiry frames and an innate toughness owing to their species' evolution in harsh environments. They ranged from around three to three and a half feet in height and, on average, would weigh between forty and forty-five pounds. Typically, they had a dark hue to their complexions, with white or grey hair (if they had any at all).

Breeding:

Kitex reproduce in the same way as that of many humanoids, and conception requires a member of the male and female sex. Gestation is faster than the average humanoid, lasting around twelve to thirteen galactic standard weeks.

Strengths & Weaknesses:

Whilst their lithe frames lend themselves to more discrete tasks, Kitex are physically less domineering than larger species. They can see in the dark; however, they are far more sensitive to the immediate introduction of bright lights than many other species. Likewise, they boast of excellent hearing, although this does come with the drawback that loud noises impact them far more alarmingly.

Diet:

Kitex had a diet similar to most humanoids in the modern Galaxy. However, a traditional diet usually consisted of moss, fungi and space-born critters, which could be harvested easily in their natural habitats.

Behaviour/Temperament:

A fatalistic and cynical people, a Kitex was slow to trust anyone outside their immediate familial and societal circle. Often born into small and well-hidden settlements nestled deep into asteroid belts, it was not uncommon for a Kitex to go much of its life without ever seeing another species. As such, they often eyed strangers with suspicion and sometimes outright dislike.

Hard-working, Kitex dedicated themselves to whatever task was set to them. This often made a more conventional Kitex dull company. However, it did make them valuable additions to a work crew. It was a combination of their usual traits that, when marked with a rare streak of adventure, made Kitex unique additions to the broader Galaxy when one of their numbers found themselves away from their traditional homes.

These 'Spacers', Kitex that, for one reason or another, left their home, overwhelmingly found themselves nestled into the galactic underworld. Their natural stealth and caution make them adept thieves, slicers and even assassins. While many found honest employment, the perception of the Kitex as cautious and stealthy was all too often warped into people seeing them as untrustworthy, sneaky, and criminal.

Communication:

Kitex communicated the old-fashioned way, using galactic standard basic. They no longer had a language of their own. However, older Kitex settlements often contained an old runic script which has yet to be translated or identified.

Culture:

Kitex culture had always been shaped by the environment in which their people lived. Their settlements were typically centred on an asteroid, usually deep within a belt. The settlement would often have no outward sign on the asteroid in which it was found. On average, these settlements would house around one to two thousand members of their species, isolated and cut off from the outside world.

Within the settlements, population density was always high. Architecturally, their settlements were practical and designed with ease and discretion; they always tried to make them as self-sufficient as they could manage.

They rarely ventured beyond their homes, and those that did usually demonstrated a streak of boldness and enterprise, which suited them for less savoury occupations. Their curiousness outshone their innate mistrust of the unknown, and often, they came across as reckless and greedy to others of their species.

Seen as hard-working and joyless by outsiders, Kitex could enjoy themselves. They fashioned exotic and often good-tasting dishes out of what was farmed in their settlements and made works of art out of stone and mined ores. Kitex even made and drank their powerful versions of spotchka.

History:

Due to their reclusive nature, the Kitex has yet to play a significant role in galactic events. Historians estimate they first emerged onto the galactic 'scene' during the days of the Old Republic, with early reports mentioning a group of 'Kitex Warriors' defending an asteroid belt from pirates.

Since then, there have been sporadic reports, primarily gathered through law enforcement sources, of Kitex thieves and assassins being detained over the years, lending more outstanding merit to the broad conception of them as a dishonest species.

Planet:

The Kitex homeworld is unknown, and various versions exist in folklore.

Technology:

A technologically advanced species, the Kitex can build and engineer their ships and tech. That being said, they are loathed to let anything go to waste, and as such, often make use of second or even third-hand gear and equipment, which they eek every bit of use out of.

Intent:

I have made this race for three reasons: to add deep Gnomes because of deep Gnomes. Two, to allow site members to play this species and three, because they're small. And yes, people could write up other types of space gnome as a species.
