DESCRIPTION
The Itinerant-class freighter is a medium cargo transport produced by Trivault Corp. As an intermediate between light and bulk freighters, it helps fill an important niche in the Galactic shipping ecosystem, and has become reasonably common on the star-lanes.The Itinerant is 70 meters in length, and can carry an excellent 5,000 standard tons of cargo. It has a crew of 6, including a pilot, co-pilot, 2 gunners, a loadmaster and an engineer, although in most situations only the pilot and co-pilot are necessary. In addition, the ship can carry up to 24 passengers. Top speed is 20 MGLT, somewhat sluggish, and defense is handled by medium shields. The ship is armed with what looks to be an impressive armament of 4 turrets, mounted 2 each to port and starboard, but the Itinerant is one of the last ships to be armed with standard medium blaster cannons, rather than laser cannons. As a result, the ship's armament is fairly inefficient, and not as accurate as it could be.
The Itinerant is most commonly found in the service of shipping companies as part of fleets, although more than a few independent spacers fly them as well. Their larger size and slower speed does not make them as common in certain illicit trades, but some smugglers still use them. They are also a favored mark of pirates, as their light armament does not present much of a challenge for them, and thus Itinerants traveling through high-risk areas of the Galaxy will often do so as part of a convoy, and/or with appropriate armed escort.
