DESCRIPTION
The GR-75 medium transport is a bulk freighter originally manufactured by the long-defunct Gallofree Yards Incorporated, a shipbuilding firm which folded during the Imperial era. Despite the company's extinction, however, many of its products are anything but, with the GR-75 being no exception.

First put into production just prior to the Clone Wars, the GR-75 was a versatile concept for its time, it could accommodate hundreds of modular cargo containers inside its partially open space-frame, locked in place by an electromagnetic shield which at the same time sealed the ship against vacuum while in space. This open design enabled the GR-75 to carry up to 19,000 standard tons of freight, and was excellent for dealing with over-sized or otherwise unusual loads. Top speed was dismal at just 20 MGLT, with a class 4 hyperdrive to match, but crew requirements were light at just 6 beings, with space for up to 90 passengers, and the enormous cargo capacity more than made up for most shortcomings.

Though unarmed in its original configuration, the type was widely used as a supply ship by the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. After the rise of the Empire, most of these ships were retired from active service and sold off, flooding the market with cheap heavy transports. This, ironically, led to hard times for the original manufacturer, Gallofree, who were not able to sell new inventory; the company was eventually bought out by Kuat Drive Yards, with new production of the GR-75 soon ending for good.

This outcome had a silver lining, however. The glut of cheap GR-75s was snapped up by various rebel groups fighting the Empire, who would later combine to form the Alliance to Restore the Republic. GR-75 medium transports swiftly became a symbol of the Rebellion, forming the backbone of the Alliance logistical network. They were present at nearly every major battle of the Galactic Civil War, serving as frontline resupply ships, troop transports and communication ships; some were even converted into automated "fire ships," laden with explosives and sent in to disrupt enemy formations. Just as much as the flashy X-Wing or stately Mon Calamari cruiser, the humble GR-75 played an indispensable role in toppling the evil that was Palpatine's Galactic Empire.

In the present day, GR-75s can still be found in service, mostly with commercial transport companies, aid organizations and occasionally criminals. After well over a century of service, most of these ships have been upgraded with some form of defensive armament, usually consisting of a quartet of dual laser turrets.

LEGALITY
Legal. Bulk freighters such as the GR-75 are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and are not restricted in most systems.

INTENT
To create a standard bulk freighter.

RESTRICTIONS
GR-75 transports are reasonably common and quite old, but are not easy or cheap to obtain. They are typically faction assets, although they could also serve as the focal point of a player-run business venture.
