Few places in the galaxy were as known for their raucous entertainment, devilish delights, and obscene wealth as Canto Bight. A playground for the rich, famous, and downright dangerous, the city was home to all manner of criminals all here with different designs. It was to this pit of depravity that came the Five Syndicates, and they had a particular plan in mind.

Beneath the walls of Canto Casino was a vault so vast that its riches were scarcely countable. Fiercely guarded and monitored, anyone willing to try their hand at opening it had to be a real particular sort. And in this galaxy there were more than a few with that sort of ambition, and they'd gathered to try their luck in what could be the biggest test of their enterprising young careers. They had a plan, they had a team, it was time to put it into action.

The final piece of the puzzle was their getaway. Canto Casino was unique in that its vault was not merely underground, but underwater. The great lake before the city hid a great secret of coin and credit that they needed to get into, and out of.

That meant a very unique piece of technology that would get in and out, through water and sky: A Mon Cala amphibious ship.

Few were seen off the home planet but put enough feelers out and you can find anything. And luckily, they had. On the neighbouring planet of Bonadan, word had reached them of an old model, beaten but usable, that was waiting for the taking. They just had to make the sale, or so they believed, and the ship would be theirs.

"Hopefully we can find our nugget of gold in this pile of bantha muck. This end of the galaxy was not something I had been planning to see on this trip" If one looked at Marissa they’d see her sigh as they walked across the docks to the what had been determined as the buying point. Their contact, the Weequay Karn Roach, would be meeting them there. But as Marissa looked over to spy their seller, she couldn’t help but notice a trio of questionable looking types their as well,

"Now what do you suppose they’re all here for Atuu?"

“I imagine that they’re looking for fossils.”

The deadpan voice came from a man who was struggling to adjust the poncho over his person, which was quite the conundrum given that the garment was loose-fitting. Maybe that’s just it. You don’t realize how comfortably snug a dress suit is until you’re dressed up to walk the surface of a polluted planet. Having foregone any tailor-made three-piece, Baymon Bluevynson came to this operation attired in boots, cargo pants, a poncho and a boonie hat, all garments varying from tan to brown for a bit of color coordination amid the rust-red palette of Bonadan. It wasn't every day that he came to so heavily an industrialized world as this one, and he hoped that his wardrobe was appropriate.

“Or they’re here to turn us or anyone else into fossils if we ponder too much on why they’re here.” Baymon adjusted his sunglasses as he pondered on that notion. In truth, those individuals yonder could have been here for any reason at all, but he had ample reason to carry his pistol concealed beneath his poncho in case the occasion called for it. Given the details of the operation and the nature of his company, it probably would soon enough.

Baymon didn’t know his cohorts and they didn’t know him. The more he branched out to sink his fingers into the cakes and pies being whipped up throughout the galaxy, the more faces he was introduced to and the more names were exchanged, with him more often than not being the only one to include a surname, for that matter. Hopefully, he would get along with his new associates, at least long enough until they completed the small jobs that led up to the big job that would earn them all a rung up the career ladder.

The ideal outcome, though, was that they wouldn’t simply come out hands filled with credits, but hands in one another’s grip for celebratory handshakes that would seal deals of cooperation for future endeavors. Connections could eclipse credits. Whatever entities had since stripped Bonadan for its wealth had certainly come to learn this creed, and now here more souls were to make their own wealth. By diving into a sea of treasure after we swim out of this pool of pollution. Sooner the better.

"Well I don't plan to become bones just yet" Marissa quipped back before straightening her back, and moving over to Karn. Thin as a stick and lanky to boot, they were oddly proportioned for a Weequay, and their voiced seemed to squeak a bit as she heard him in conversation with the trio,

"Karn Roach" Marissa announced as she and Blue approached "I believe you've got something for me" There weren't too many other people in earshot besides those already here. It was time to get whatever this was sorted out so they could be on their way. They couldn't afford to lose time,

"Oh, oh, oh, oh yes, yes you must be Ms-" Karn was quickly cut off by the biggest of the bunch,

"I'm afraid we've got a deal going on right here already love, so if you wouldn't mind letting us wrap up" they said, rolling their eyes at her as they turned back to Karn "The door codes to the ship, hand them over would you. We wouldn't want you to keep your other clients waiting" they spat as a threat. Marissa though looked over the edge of the dock into the water. The Amphibious ship was there, lolling in the water, rather beaten up and rusted from the years, but still together it seemed. And, it was the only one around,

"Something tells me we're here for the same thing. So perhaps we can come to an agreement"

Baymon completely agreed with his accomplice’s sentiment on not becoming bones yet. There were enough of those to go around on Bonadan without adding to with their own. As they approached their contact, a frail fellow with an insect's surname, he studied both him and the three stooges beside him. One was big and burly and the other two looked like they catered to the bigger one at every opportunity. There was a Human, a Rodian and the would-be ringleader was a Boltrunian. That one, he spoke with word choices that were civil enough, but his speech was anything but. A brute if ever there was one.

Looking from the vessel to Marissa to the others, Baymon watched the Boltrunian’s lips spread as he watched Marissa. His face was an open book, his thoughts ranging anywhere from having been interrupted again to whether he would eat the woman for dinner. Baymon wouldn’t have put it past him.

“I see, so you want the boat as well, do you?” The Boltrunian nodded in understanding. “Well, I suppose we can come to an agreement after all. How about this? How about you and your daddy go play over there . . . “

Daddy? Baymon followed the creature’s forefinger toward what looked suspiciously like a pile of scrap metal in the distance.

“ . . . And leave me and my friends alone so we can buy this boat that can’t have more than one captain? That agreeable with everyone?” His friends nodded. Baymon didn’t.

Though, the fool does have a point. We can’t exactly share the vessel now can we? “What, do tell, would you even use such a vessel for?” Baymon worked to maintain a cordial approach, gazing up at the bulky creature while tilting his head. “Are you planning a subterranean expedition on Kamino? A drunken snorkel in the oceans of Corellia? How about fishing on Mon Cala?” As amusing as the ideas were to Baymon, the Boltrunian and his buddies didn’t appear to be amused at all. He looked between Karn and the Boltrunian. “As it so happens, my friend and I are planning a bit of a water race and we would be elated to acquire this “boat” for the sale price and a modest compensation for your troubles. Is that agreeable to your...financial acumen?” Or are am I going to have a put a bolt through the bulging vein of your forehead and hope that it penetrates your thick skull?

Marissa listened close as Blue ran his silver tongue before the rather aggressive trio. She had just wanted t come here and pick up the damn ship, that there was even this level of trouble was seriously trying her patience today. She wasn't one for superstitions usually, but she prayed this wasn't a portent for the operation to come.

The few took a moment, they were almost a comical sight turning away and gossiping amongst themselves, a few raised voices, a sudden shush, and a general rumble of voices as they bickered amongst themselves about what to do. But it seemed that, even with their numbers, the meeker two were exactly that, and the big Boltrunian seemed to get his way,

"I'm afraid mate that's not exactly what Roach here promised us" he said, his mouth lolling over to the Weequay who at this point had taken a few steps back,

"Boys, if you wouldn't mind taking what we came here for, I might keep this little chat going with our friends" his eyes darted back and fell on Marissa and Blue, cracking his knuckles as he spoke "Think you can take a wire of the credits Roach? I don't think you're needed anymore" The Weequay nodded and began to move away,

"A deal is a deal after all" Marissa nodded to Blue as her hand reached for the blaster she had tied to the back of her belt, following the two that moved toward their prize

Things were about to pick up.

Baymon’s eyes didn’t spare a blink as they caught Karn taking a few steps back, putting himself further away from harm. There was no sense in stealing the ship if it could be paid for fair and square, and Baymon was at least one character in this scene who wanted to keep things as agreeable as possible. The other team, not so much, especially as the big one ordered his friends to all but steal the vessel while he cracked his knuckles like they were roaches.

It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that Baymon had the odds against him, but he wagered himself a gambling man. And what are you, big boy? A gambler or a cheater? The difference was quite distinct, even if not many could see it. Marissa, meanwhile, saw what was coming, and the hand that went to the back of her belt was Baymon’s own personal cue of what he had holstered at the back of his own.

“I genuinely don’t want this to become...unpleasant.” He measured his voice and his eyes with the Boltrunian who stared back with venom in his pupils. The vein on his forehead twitched, and the muscles and tendons in his neck looked like the roots of a wroshyr tree. Baymon nodded at his contemporary’s silent advance, catching his actual associate position herself behind the two goons who were going for the aquatic prize.

“You know, it’s awful but people do tend to associate a thick neck with a low IQ.” Baymon divulged. The Boltrunian pounded his fist into an open palm and stomped forward, clearly unimpressed. “How about shattering that cliche by reasonably persuading yourself to change your mind?”

“HOW ABOUT YOU EAT FIST, OLD MAN!?”

And like that, the giant of a being lunged forward with a right hook that swung true. Unfortunately for the fool, the attack was seen from a mile away ever since the knuckles were cracked, and his target was ready. As the fist came, Baymon leaned and stepped back, dodging the fist, at the same time as whipping his pistol from his lower back and swinging it forward a little differently than his foe had swung his fist.

As the Boltrunian was recovering from his own swing, Baymon squeezed the trigger and plugged a bolt in each of his opponent’s knees, one quick shot after the other. The big boy roared and fell down to the ground to growl, incapacitated and in a lot of pain. Baymon's gun went from the Boltrunian to his friends, intent on eliminating one threat after the other and assisting his partner as much as needed, seconds away from squeezing the trigger.

Marissa trained her blaster by the bodies of the two that ran off, though listened close to Blue and the biltrunian behind her. As clean and convincing Blue’s words might have been, they were having none. And somehow she doubted it would have ended any other way, even if they’d just let them have the ship.

As Blue’s blaster fired off behind her, she shot forward, aiming her blasts by the feet of the pair running for the ship. As the bolts sparked and burnt the pier, one of the two suddenly came to a stop as the bolts chewed close to their toes. The other leapt for the ship, diving off the deck and into the water.

A quick glance back showed the bolteunian on the ground. Neither her nor Blue meant to end their competitors, but they couldn’t let them just take their prize either, or else a whole lot of planning would be wasted,

“I wouldn’t move anywhere if I were you” she said, keeping her gun to the back of the one who stood stock still by the edge of the water,

“Blue, one left! Mind giving him a bit of a stick up” she said with a smile. She could have done without this, but at least it seemed as if they werent dealing with professionals here. Made their job simple.

Karn Roach kept out of the way, watching events unfold, and Marissa appeared to have things under control—with one of the buffoons, anyway. The Rodian stood with his hands up while the Human had clearly jumped overboard. When his partner asked him to reel that one back in, Baymon shrugged in agreement, feeling as forthcoming as the vessel that awaited him on the surface of the sea, and that which might await one other man at the bottom of said sea. Walking up to the edge, Baymon trained his pistol toward the swimming man and pulled the trigger. A bolt flew upon the water in between the ship and him and froze him in place.

“Ever heard the expression ‘drowning your sorrows away’?” Baymon inquired with a pleasant face. The frightened fool looked this way and that way, trying to look away from the man holding the gun but somehow failing to. “Ehh, usually in the form of consuming copious amounts of alcohol, but we can reinterpret the meaning for our present circumstances to where, if I put a bolt in each one of your shoulders, you’ll drown your lungs away and feel frightfully sorry about it. I won’t.”

Baymon put on a look of disgust at the surrounding waves. “Eesh, drowning is bad enough, but I certainly wouldn’t want my last breath to be taken in a pool as polluted as this one, let alone swim in it. So! How about you paddle your way back onto the pier, stand beside your pal, and pray to whatever fortune cookie feels right for you that we don’t change our mind about not killing you two and your howling Boltrunian friend. M'kay?”

The man nodded, though whether out of relief of not getting shot or of not spending another moment in this ‘sea’ was any man’s guess. With a muzzle trained on his being, he climbed back onto the pier, stood beside the Rodian facing the same direction, and if a prayer was made then it was a silent one.

“Well!” Baymon nodded in satisfaction beside Marissa, his gun trained on one back of two. “Now what?”

Now what, that was a fair question. They had a trio of thugs who weren't exactly going anywhere. If she and Blue had been Sector Rangers or something perhaps they would have hauled them in for questioning, or just thrown them in a prison to rot.

But they weren't, and that wasn't her plan,

"Karn" Marissa called back to their erstwhile salesman who was still tepidly waddling away from the little brawl that had broken out "How much were these three planning to pay you for the ship? What was the deal?" she asked with a smirk on her face, giving Blue a look that said 'trust me',

"uhhhh, umm, it was ah, three, three thousand credits, that and they'd finally lay off me" The weequay replied, their voice shaking as much as their boots,

"Well now" Marissa looked back to the injured leader of the group "be good would you all and pay Mr Roach here, undoubtedly this little scuffle is going to draw some attention, the least he could be is compensated, don't you think?" she had no intention of leaving the dealer empty handed, a deal was a deal after all. But if she could avoid paying herself, well, then things were even better,

"You seriously think that we're going to pay for-" the biltrunian spoke up, but just a tap against his knees was all it took to have him bark back as his wounds bit at him once more

"One of you then, fetch those credits will you? And I'm sure you'll all hold to the rest of the bargain you had with Mr Roach, won't they Blue?"

Catching his accomplice’s look, it was all Baymon could do to raise his brows in arcs that mirrored his lips. As soon as Marissa had posed the query of payment, he might have read her lips and the meaning coated upon them like lipstick. My, how fiendishly foxy she would look with lips of rose gold. It appeared that one Karn Roach would be paid after all, keeping things fair and in order, though he wasn’t the only one who would be compensated for his troubles. And it shan’t even cost us a credit.

Baymon bit his lip as the Boltrunian’s knee was pressed upon by a foot. He would certainly have to get himself checked out at the first available opportunity. Ms. Marissa Hesse was a determinedly dangerous woman, which was no shocker given her employ, but there was a peculiar quality to her character that was positively charming, and perhaps no less so because of her aptitude for doing, well, whatever it was that they were doing.

“I’m sure they will,” Baymon reassured all five folks before him. “Turn around, you two.” The Human and the Rodian turned to meet his gaze. “Consider it an act of good faith on all parts. It’s going to cost a considerable amount to repair the knees of the big one, and paying the Weequay will keep you from having to pay any more surgical fees for the other limbs you’ll lose if you don’t.” That seemed to earn their attention as the two still standing persons exchanged a look and all but ignored their wounded peer.

“The sooner we conclude our business, the sooner we can all part ways from this dreadful planet to never see each other again. Unless any of you happen to be a fan of the Don Garonnin? They’re showing it at the Civil Opera House of Celanon City three days from now.” He tilted his head, staring at the hopeless sods before him but seeing actors and musicians instead of them. “My, few things are finer than watching a licentious nobleman seduce his way across the stars, best his opponents in dancing duels, and end up in the Underworld for his shameless lust…” A few blinks brought him out of the daze and back to the matter at hand.

“Anyway!" He motioned with his gun. "Cough up the credits like the stellar boy scouts we know you to be and let’s get this over with.” The Human and the Rodian exchanged another look, then looked down at the Boltrunian, who didn’t budge beyond ah!’ing and gah!’ing. “I see…” It made sense that the gang leader kept the credits on his person. “Go ahead,” he gestured to the Rodian. “I’ll either shoot you for not getting or him for not giving. One or the other, but hopefully neither.”

Both the Rodian and the Boltrunian offered their understanding on that matter by quietly cooperating. The Boltrunian pulled a hand from his pocket with the payment and handed it to the Rodian who handed it to the Weequay. Karn counted the credits and looked up at Baymon and Marissa with a smile.

“Well!” Baymon slapped his thigh in delight. “That settles that. More deals to be made.” He gestured to Marissa toward the boat in the water. “Shall we?”

"We shall" she replied with a smile, pushing past the human and the rodian next to her until she made it to the edge of the pier, the ship beneath her.

Climbing down, Marissa clambered into the amphibious starship docked in the water. Its controls were familiar enough, and the fact it floated as it did proved if nothing else it would do what they needed it to. From here they needed to smuggle it back to Cantonica and leave it in the lake, their pre-placed getaway vehicle for the upcoming heist. Today they had secured it, and saved themselves a few credits to boot. Blue seemed to have been the right pick for the job, she had to admit, Marissa had been glad to have him around today. She was also glad to find someone else who appreciated something finer,

"Another fan of Noszart I see?" she pried as she flicked the ships start up sequence,

"I've been meaning to see it again for a long, long time. We'll have to take in a show" Marissa finally added with a smirk before shooting up away from Bonadan, and off to the stars. Another step complete.
