DESCRIPTION
The BX-series battle droid, better known as the commando droid, is a model of special forces infantry droid originally manufactured by the now long-defunct Baktoid Combat Automata corporation. Entering production during the Clone Wars, the BX was developed primarily to serve in the army of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the largest droid fighting force ever assembled.

Unlike its predecessors, the low-cost, relatively flimsy B1 and the hulking B2, the BX commando droid is a highly sophisticated attack and infiltration unit, designed for independent operations behind enemy lines. They are fitted with more sophisticated cognitive hardware, and are capable of utilizing advanced tactics and and strategy to complete their mission. The BX series is based on a scaled-down B2 super battle droid chassis; unlike the B2, however, it is incredibly nimble, able to perform of feats of acrobatics only an organic gymnast would be capable of. They are also appropriately scaled to fit inside standard trooper armor, which grants them an extra level of protection and allows them to don disguises; they can modulate their vocabulators to mimic voices, as well. When in disguise, however, their movements and speech patterns can give them away. Like B1s, BX droids are capable of functioning even after being dismembered, although a head shot will put them down for good.

BX commando droids were considered a match for even well trained organic soldiers, and were used for various special assignments and operations throughout the war. Such was their reputation that, even after the end of the Clone Wars, Lord Darth Vader acquired a private army of BX droids for his personal use.

BX commando droids were among the most sophisticated models of combat droid to be fielded by the CIS during the Clone Wars, and understandably were among the least common. At the end of the war, a shutdown command was issued to all elements of the Separatist military, with most BX units being deactivated and subsequently seized by the newly formed Galactic Empire. Large numbers of captured BX droids were scrapped, with the remainder being expended as aggressor units in military training exercises, or simply languishing in storage. Many of those not seized by the Empire ended up on the black market, or remained active in the hands of Separatist holdouts which had for whatever reason not heeded the shutdown command. Notably, BX droids were made with a high degree of independence, and some units were known to have simply ignored the shutdown command due to their own self-preservation subroutines.

Although they were a major component of the CIS droid army, BX droids in working condition are exceptionally rare in the present day. With special infantry droids having been firmly banned under the Empire, and highly regulated under the New Republic, droid armies like those used during the Clone Wars essentially no longer exist. BXs, although highly desirable on the black market, are extremely difficult to get hold of. They can still be found, however, generally in the hands of small planetary militias, mercenary groups and criminals.

LEGALITY
Illegal. Special infantry droids such as the BX are highly restricted under interstellar law, with personal ownership being banned. Many beings get around this restriction by reprogramming their BXs as personal attendants and bodyguards, or at least claiming to have done so.

INTENT
To create a standard archaic special forces droid model.

RESTRICTIONS
A BX super battle droid is an exceptionally rare and expensive piece of equipment, with individual ownership being difficult in the present day, although not impossible. Characters based on the BX may be created, but will be subject to increased scrutiny by members of staff.
