DESCRIPTION
The AT-AT, known formally as the All-Terrain Armored Transport, is a heavy combat walker manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards, and originally developed for the Galactic Empire. One of the most feared war machines in the Imperial arsenal, the AT-AT is a massive, lumbering behemoth whose value was as much its psychological impact as its combat ability. Designed as a dual-purpose mobile assault platform and troop transport for rough terrain, it is intended to punch holes in enemy lines, and to deliver troops directly to the point of penetration. In Imperial service, it was also used to terrorize local populations and deal with events like riots and insurgencies.

The AT-AT is well armored, with a duranium carapace capable of shrugging off almost anything short of a heavy laser blast. It has a crew of 3, including a driver, gunner and commander, plus up to 40 passengers, typically soldiers. Up to 100 standard tons of cargo can be carried internally, although the AT-AT can carry or pull large loads externally as well; there is also a small hangar with racks for up to 5 speeder bikes or swoops. Armament consists of a pair of heavy laser cannons mounted in the chin, plus a pair of medium blaster cannon turrets mounted on the temples. Over level ground, the AT-AT can plod at speeds up to 60 kph.

Notably, despite their powerful weapons, thick armor and imposing appearance, AT-ATs do have a few weaknesses. Like most walkers they can be brought down by tripwires or other entanglements, although these must be especially sturdy as AT-ATs are equipped with heavy-duty servos that can snap anything short of high-test durasteel cable. Due to its imposing height, as well, not much thought was given to protecting the AT-AT from above; there is an unarmored spot just behind the neck of the vehicle, a single shot by a medium blaster cannon being sufficient to penetrate. This spot is hard to hit while the walker is in motion, as the head-mounted weapons normally cover the approach, but if an AT-AT can be tripped up and temporarily immobilized, the shot is much easier. Well-placed infantry can also engage walkers from below; using ascension cables or other climbing equipment, it is possible to toss grenades or other explosives into vents and other gaps in the walker's underbelly, which can disable gyro-balancers and drive systems, immobilizing the machine.

AT-ATs, despite their utility on the battlefield, are notoriously difficult to transport. Gozanti-class armed freighters or dedicated heavy lifters are necessary to move them from a starship to the surface of a planet. As a result, once they arrive on a world, they tend to stay there without a major logistical effort to recover them.

The AT-AT served the Empire well, its intimidating appearance and good combat power proving well suited to the terror tactics used by much of the Imperial military to reinforce their control over subject populations. Though not as common as the smaller AT-ST, the two vehicles often worked in concert. After the Empire's fall, however, the New Republic quickly abandoned the use of such tactics, and the AT-AT was largely retired from their service. Many remain in use with various local governments and mercenary groups, however, and they can also be found on the black market.

LEGALITY
Restricted. The AT-AT is indisputably a military vehicle. Civilian ownership is heavily regulated on most worlds.

INTENT
To create a standard heavy combat walker.

RESTRICTIONS
AT-ATs are powerful military vehicles, and functional examples are not viable for individual ownership. They can be acquired as a faction asset with proper staff oversight.
