DESCRIPTION​

The 2-1B-series surgical droid is a model of medical droid manufactured by Industrial Automaton. One of the most capable medical droids in Galactic history, the 2-1B dispenses with the arsenal of integrated medical implements used by earlier medical droids such as Medtech's FX-series droid, and instead employs advanced cognitive systems and a modular design to deliver excellent medical care.

The 2-1B is bipedal, and is equipped with a pair of arms tipped with claw-like manipulators. Though they appear clumsy, the 2-1B's manipulators are capable of an astonishingly delicate touch and a surprising range of motion, allowing the droid to perform complex medical procedures with skill and precision matching or exceeding that of an organic surgeon. These manipulators are modular, as well, and can be swapped out for more specialized tools as needed. For complex procedures, 2-1Bs can work alone in a pinch, but are generally meant to work with droid or organic orderlies.

2-1Bs, in contrast to earlier medical droids, are noted for their excellent bedside manner and generally dedicated and compassionate stock personality. If left without memory wipes, of course, the droids will develop a more distinctive personality. Though designed primarily as surgeons, 2-1Bs are exceptionally versatile, and can be found as nurses, pharmacists and even general practitioners on many worlds. Particularly experienced 2-1Bs have even achieved tenure as instructors at various medical schools.
