DESCRIPTION​

The 1DM turbo-crawler is a heavy tracked utility vehicle produced by HarvoTech, a firm known for its heavy agricultural equipment. Designed for work in hazardous environments, it is sold primarily to mining concerns and prospectors, in whose service it has gained a reputation for durability and reliability.

The 1DM is a simple vehicle, essentially a pair of wide, heavy-duty tracks supporting a mostly cast inoxium hull, with a single large transparisteel viewport almost half a meter thick for vision. The 1DM is imposing, but is completely unarmed; it is armored, however, with a carapace engineered to shrug off rock slides, acid rain, hostile wildlife and even medium blaster fire. Also incorporated are a host of sensors and a long-range comlink system. The turbo-crawler can be operated by a single driver, and can carry up to 8 passengers and 10 standard tons of cargo in a sealed, pressurized, climate controlled environment. Top speed is just 50 kilometers per hour, although there is very little in the way of terrain that the 1DM cannot negotiate.

Generally speaking, the 1DM turbo-crawler is a harmless ground transport; though thickly armored and massively heavy, it carries no weapons, and is generally too slow for any kind of combat role. It is commonly seen on inhospitable mining planets, where it serves as a heavy surface transport for prospecting expeditions and resupply of remote outposts.
