Briefing: The Umbarans are skeptical of our ability to operate in their natural environment: the total dark. We will prove them wrong! Two of our finest warriors will meet two of their champions for a duel in the dark. The terms have been set by the champions, so don’t expect to bring a flashlight. It will be a melee; first team down and unable to fight loses. Hope you packed your shiniest vibrosword, because they can see far better than you. Dice here.

Well this was going to be an interesting afternoon. Two mandalorians had been selected for a melee fight with two Umbarans. It was a melee arena fight. Burkhart was wearing his armor but because of the situation he had removed the wrist rocket add on for his armor in exchange for a concealed blade. On either hand he had shock boxing gloves that had the safety limiters removed. On his belt he had his versatech cosmo wrench.

The arena was a decent size. A large circle with nearly twenty meters in diameter. In the center was a platform that raised them up from the space below in an elevator type of fashion. Burkhart stood ready and looked around in the dim lighting. He could make out the crowd around them. It would be a minute as their opposition arrived. He looked over at his cohort to see if he was ready.

He had been asked to be one of two Mandalorians to represent the clans in a duel with the champions of Umbaran. He wore his usual armor but still felt somewhat naked without all of his weapons. Varus had grown up in the wilderness, he had fought off wild creatures in the dark, and with far less than a sword. Today would not be easy, they would be fighting out of their element but Mandalorians didn't fail.

The lift raised them up to the raised dueling arena. The light was dim, but he could make out the dim figures shifting in the darkness beyond the arena. It wasn't quite perse, but it was quieter than most arenas.

He checked his vibrosword and knife one last time. He knew they were there, but keeping his hands busy helped. He met the gaze of his soon to be fighting companion. He had never fought with the Mandalorian or even met him. As an outsider, he would have had to go to great lengths to prove himself to be allowed into their society so he had no doubts in Burkehart's abilities. He returned a nod just as the lift on the other side of the arena slowly made its climb.

Two tall, slender figures stepped out onto the other side of the arena. The dim light glinting off of their solid white eyes. The stepped forward, bowed slightly and the duel began.

Varus pulled its sword from his sheath on his back, ready for the fight ahead.

With his partner similar to himself hee would hope he could hold his own. He knew clan Wren had some capable members. Hopfully Varus did not besmirtch Burkhart's opinion of the clan. But that was just his personal desire. He did not think himself greatly above other clans. Kelborn were down in the muck with everybody else when it came down to it.

It looked like Burkhart's opponent was not in just simple clothes. He had well used robes and looked to be armed with a well crafted sword. When he bowed and saluted the Morling it would be returned. Burkhart pulled his wrench from his belt and hefted it. He remembered how he had accidentally caved a man's skull in with it a few weeks back on Taris. Ideally there would be no death and little injury.

He took a few steps to the side, giving both himself and Varus plenty of room to do any maneuvers they wanted to perform without hitting one another. Burkhart's unused hand was up, open palmed and ready to strike or grab if need be. His pose ready to dash or run. But the Umbaran circled him, away from his own companion. In another moment he stepped out of the little light and into the shadows. Burkhart's yellow eyes shifted, looking for the opponent but he was lost in the darkness. Not a good way to start things off.

Burkehart broke off towards one of the champions, and Varus set his sights on the other one. It was dark, just light enough to barely make out the figures moving. The dim light glinted off of his opponent's sword as she dashed towards him. She moved fast, extremely fast. It was difficult to track her movements in the near darkness but when the attack came, he spun to the side out of habit and swung his own blade.

The momentum given to him by the spin would be enough the cleave the woman in half but his sword met hers, sparks shooting out from the point of contact. The brief light stuck in his vision making it even more difficult to see the woman as she jumped back into darkness.

Perhaps Burkhart's morling physiology allowed him to see better in the dark than the average person. Maybe his ears were that much sharper. His opponent was a not very quiet and seemed to be relying on a lack of light to hinder the Kelborn clan member's fighting capabilities. But Burkhart would not be susceptible to such tactics and could easily follow the man through the darkness.

Burkhart let out a roar and charged at the Umbaran. He seemed surprised that he was being seen but still moved to lead the Morling onto his blade. But Burkhart's cosmo wrench swatted it aside with tremendous force, putting the Umbaran off balance and allowing the Morling to strike him with a shock boxing covered fist right in the side of the jaw, sending the being flying back a meter but still concious. He dropped his sword and Burkhart kept his wrench at his side.

Varus blinked his eyes, trying to clear the stars that appeared due to the flash of light from earlier. The cleared just as the Umbaran pushed the attack again.

Varus moved faster this time and lunged at the woman, swinging his sword but he miscalculated slightly and she dipped to his left, slashing at him. The blade cut shallowly along his left arm. While not serious, it sent a hot pain up his arm. The drew some cheers from crowd. He was not out of the fight by a longshot, but he would have to be careful about leaving himself open.

He quickly glanced at his companion, hoping he was doing better.

Burkhart's mind was still ready for the Umbaran's counter attack and recovery. But instead he seemed to be sluggish in his movements. The Morling was a well versed bare knuckle boxer and with the shox boxing gloves on his hands he essentially had a full fledged melee weapon with both of his fists. The man struggled to crawl over to his sword that lay on the ground but the canine mandalorian stepped on it before he got to it.

Leaning down he punched the rising Umbaran with his left fist. A solid strike in the pale skinned man's face knocking him out and finishing the fight between the two. He had decided not to clober the downed umbaran with his wrench. That would have just been too far. He did not want the Umbaran dead and sour relations. The man also probably would have gotten a concusion if Burkhart had used his right fist and not his off hand.

He bent down and picked up the sword that the man had been using and looked at it. After he was done looking at what little detail he could see in the weapon his eyes went over to Varus. "Ya need any halp thar vod?

Not waiting for the next attack to come, he pushed the pain and lunged at the Umbaran. He brought his sword down in a heavy downswing. She dodged out of the way but the sword bit deep into her leg and she let out a yell that sent a wave of silence through the crowd.

He had no doubt she would continue to fight but that leg wouldn't hold out forever. A smarter fighter may have toyed with her until her leg gave out before coming in to finish her, but they were her to make an impression. He wanted to end this quickly. He easily dodged the next attack that she threw to try and put some distance between them. He stepped into reach and grabbed her arm, pulling her sidewise. Her leg didn't pivot easily, allowing him to get an arm around her neck.

Taller than her, he leaned back as she began to squirm, trying to get out of his grasp. A few weak attempts to break the grapple were the only thing the Umbran had left before she was finished. The fight was soon over and they were left in silence as both opponents were defeated.

There was no call for assistance that came from Varus. He struggled but it was to be expected of the finest the locals had to offer as oposition. The Morling looked around into the darkness of the crowd. He heard some of them but even his sight could not penetrate that far. It was as good as won for the two mandalorians.

Raising his hands up he called out. "Alright. Now you've seen wha weh can doo. Mind letin us out of herre?" He asked loudly so whomever was in charge would understand. In a matter of seconds a side door to the arena would open and allow the mandalorians to exit. Hopefully there would be some drink and food after this. He had worked up an appetite.

He pulled up beside Burkhart as they waited to hear back from the Umbarans. The fight had been over quickly, but almost all fights were. This was the best outcome for both people. The Mandalorians had got to prove their combat prowess to the Umbarans and there was no loss of life. Everyone won, for the most part.

It was unnerving standing in the middle of the quiet arena. Varus could hardly see anything except for the occasional shifting of shapes in the near complete blackness. When Burkhart called out, it seemed almost deafening to him given the state of the room.

After what seemed like an eternity, some small amount of light appeared in the room and they were approached by an older looking Umbaran. He exited the elevator and walked towards them slowly. He bowed, which Varus returned. "You have done well, both you of you. "It appears the Mandalorian reputation even holds true in darkness. You both have done well." the elder said. "I will tell the others what I have seen today." he said as several others came to retrieve the unconscious combatants.

With that the elder took his leave, leaving the two Mandalorians alone. With the adrenaline fading, Varus' arm began to throb with the pain of the cut he endured. He would need to go tend to that wound. He turned to Burkhart. "Well fought, brother. At least I assume it was. I couldn't see for shit." he said grinning.
