Info: Set to Ask any welcome to ask to join
    Planet: Coruscant
    Time: Late Evening
    Location: Uscru District

The Evening was in full swing at this time, as always the Uscru was the place to be on Coruscant, ranging from the high fliers all the way down to the local drunks and party animals. Ships raced overhead dashing about from location to location, the air was abuzz with music and advertisements as well as the general rowdy talkative activity of any good city.

A yellow air taxi was descending down from the upper levels towards the lower levels carrying one passenger and a droid pilot. The air speeder dropped down from the airbus lane and into a station that awaited its arrival.

Carthus stepped from the speeder, wearing a tailored outfit that had simple if not elegant patterns upon the trim of the attire. It was offset by a belt around the waist, carrying a small collapsable blade on his right hip, a blaster on his left and of course had a number of pouches dotted around the belt in a fashionable way, a number of them containing credits and one of them containing a simple necklace inside.

Carthus descended the stairway onto the main footpath and began to make his way over the wet almost shimmering ground towards a busy bar, tucked neatly between two alleyways. He raised his hand towards the droid staffing and manning the area to get their attention for a drink.

Rao Quel-Ran’s graduation was brief and didn’t leave much of an impression on him. His CO gave him a handshake, his first orders and told him to beat it. His first mission under the Galactic Alliance was to obtain information from a possible defector on Coruscant. Whether or not the intelligence was good, he would never know, he just needed to make the drop, pass it off, and await extraction. It was low profile and not extremely important.

Uscru was the place for the drop, he would meet his contact, get passed the data and discreetly leave. It was for this reason that Rao felt it was necessary to scrape together some credits, rent some decent clothes, and for once act like he belonged. He was not very good at this.

The Mandalorian, picking at his collar the entire walk to the bar, awkwardly sat down, unknowingly right next to one Carthus Pheonix Kira, whom vaguely resembled his contact.

“Awfully warm out, ain’t it ?” He said, which would seem quite dumb to Carthus, as if anything there was a chill out in Uscru that time of night. It was Rao’s half of the cipher that would identify his GA contact.

Uscru… is that a Bothan name? Oddi mused as she approached the mildly flashy establishment. Most of the taverns that she had slinked her way into were a little on the smutty side, but this? This place was kinda classy. Not exquisite, but respectable at least. There was better money here, and better entertainment. Not bad, not bad… and she hadn’t even made it into the bar area yet.

There was an area for those who were there for the dining experience where, occasionally, families would bring in their children. How sweet… younglings that actually get affection and know that someone is there to watch over them. Feh… this sort of coddling would never prepare them for the cruelty of reality. It left a bitter and, unadmittedly, envious taste in her mouth.

She glanced over at the bar entrance as the band inside was starting another set. She could pick out the kloo horn from the noise immediately, and briefly imagined herself on that stage, playing the “pipe”, basking in the limelight, and earning some real credits. *Sigh* Alas, her need of immediate currency would have to be tended to first. She pocketed her fantasy and took a few paces toward the bar…

Of course there was a bouncer. Of course there was. Sure, Oddi could make herself out to be any humanoid race, as long as it was a youngling. Sometimes being short for your age had advantages, but when you wanted to mix with the adult sector it made things a touch more… challenging.

She would need a distraction. And there was one walking right through the entrance.

A couple of Duros shuffled inside, so wrapped up in conversation that they weren’t quite paying attention to their surroundings. Smirking to herself, she stepped behind some floor art and shifted into a youngling of their species. As they walked toward the bar she fell in line behind them, her small hand holding on to the coattails of the taller of the two. As they attempted to enter, the bouncer stopped them, informing them that younglings were not permitted inside. As they argued that Oddi was not their child, she clamored for the tall one’s attention, asking Papa why they wouldn’t pay attention to her. Annoyed, the taller Duros kicked her away, causing her to fall to the floor. Enraged that he would strike a child, the bouncer stood up and grabbed the Duros’ collar. Chaos ensued, and Oddi crept in unnoticed.

Ha!!! That was too easy… Oddi chuckled as she shifted back into her natural form. She kept to the back of the area, sticking to the darker spots while she scoped the scene…

Carthus saw a droid come over towards him as he offered a smile towards the droid, taking a moment to mull things over before ordering one of his firm drinks of choice a Corellian whiskey.

The droid took the order moving off, as Carthus relaxed against the bar, his mind was focused on recent events still. All that had gone on and how the situation had changed during his time isolated adrift in space. Though he had fully recovered and was showing to be full of energy once again he still ached and had a look of concern over his face. The encounters with a Darth, the Jedi, and the rebels lately had given him a lot to be concerned on, but more than that he was concerned about what had happened to his friend.

Even as his thoughts were running away with him, he kept a level of awareness over his surroundings, a hand slipping into one of the pouches on his belt and removing a collection of credit chips staking them upon the table in front of him. Rolling one for a moment back and forth on the countertop. It was then a voice broke through his thoughts
Awfully warm out, ain’t it ?”.

Carthus turned his head slightly to have his ear more towards the man as he chewed on his tongue a bit for a few moments

"Things are about to get a lot more heated with the state of things"

Carthus responded in kind towards the man, as he turned his head to look him over for a few moments as he took in a slow deep breath and exhaled taking in the mans appearance and features, taking in how well kept the clothing appeared and fresh they seemed to be, but his attention returned back to the bar as his drink arrived and the droid took the credit chips.

A situation started to occur nearby with a bouncer and what appeared to be a couple of Duros, Carthus brow raised watching what was going on as he exhaled slowly shaking his head some, lifting up the cup towards his lips and taking a slow drink from it as he smiled a bit

"Some people just can't resist conflict it seems, that or they really can't handle their drinks. So what brings a man like you here to this bar? Conflict or handling drinks?"

Carthus asked turning his attention back towards the man, as he turned his body and rested his arm on the bar looking at him full on this time. But something sent a momentary shiver down his spine as though he felt something nearby, Carthus however ignored it and chose to keep his mind focused on the current situation with the man near him.

“I couldn’t hold my alcohol if my life depended on it, so I guess it’s the former.” The man responded with a slightly disappointed tone, signalling to the droid that he wouldn’t be ordering. Almost subconsciously, Rao felt over his jacket’s left inside pocket, making sure his stun baton was still there, concealed. He then refocused himself on the seemingly high roller in front of him. Finding his contact was important, but so was maintaining his cover of a casual socialite.

“But really, I’m just here looking for an old friend. Looks a bit like you actually.” Rao smiles and gestures to him. He took a genuine curiosity to Carthus, at least for the moment. He seemed like a decent guy, if not someone with a sense of fashion. Rao’s outfit paled in comparison to the man before him, but he still tried to stand up straight and represent it well. They were the nicest things he’d worn in years.

The young man’s eyes then started to search the rest of the bar, looking for his contact, or rather people that could be his contact. He counted two others matching the description he was given, and one was passed out at the end of the bar. While he was scanning the room, he took a look at the Duros fighting with the bouncer. Finally, after several moments, Rao’s gaze fell back on Carthus.

The human lady with the bright pink accessories at table five was oblivious to the fact that she was now about thirty credits poorer, but when one is flirting heavily with a high-rolling stud sitting across from them while getting waisted on Corillian Runners… well anyway, her mind was on other things.

Oddi was doing well so far! She wasn’t about to stop to count her earnings yet though. Not here. And besides, she was getting a strange feeling about this place. No… it wasn’t the place. It was the bar itself... or something around that spot anyhow. Her common sense was screaming No! Stay away from there! but my stars was she drawn to it! Curiosity was indubitably getting the best of the young clawdite. Okay… maybe the bar would be a good distraction spot. While the drunkards were clamoring for the bartender’s attention their eyes wouldn’t be looking behind them or next to them, right? But to get to the bar she somehow had to not look like a child. Well… there’s always the chadra-fan, she pondered. She had used it before, but making those large rodent-like ears was a bit painful. Was it worth it?

    Yep.

She crawled under an unoccupied table and morphed out of plain sight. Her ears ached as if someone had stuck their fingers into her ear canals and yanked upward. Ouch! She couldn’t help but wonder if the pain would lessen the more she practiced this particular form. Finally, she finished, and the pulling sensation halted. She managed to squirm out from underneath just before a rodian claimed the table for himself.

She scanned the scene once again before casually slinking her way toward the bar. That feeling was still lingering. She just couldn’t quite put her finger on it, but Ai Mabara was it annoying!

Carthus felt a sensation once again, turning his head every so slightly towards the direction of Oddi. He could feel something, it was something that he only had felt on a few other times in the past, it was something that Azran had told him about. This caused Carthus to shift ever so slightly in his chair before turning his attention back towards Rao once more. While he did that he started to reach outwards towards that feeling trying to tell what it was.

He smiled a bit at the comment about conflict raising his brows some, before lifting his drink once again to his lips and taking a sip from the liquid in the glass

"Well there will always be a conflict, hope you choose the right side. As for a person looking like me, he must be a very handsome friend indeed or one in a lot of trouble. What can I say I am somewhat of a rebel, I always end up in a level of trouble"

Slowly he leaned forwards on the counter and raised a hand towards the droid once again. The action of leaning forwards brought him a bit closer towards the man again as he whispered.

"And Rebels tend to get into trouble with the Empire don't you agree?"

Carthus wasn't looking at the man as he said that, he continued to look towards the waiting staff until one saw him, making him smile friendly towards the droid before lowering back down into his seat and taking in a deep breath exhaling. He was curious to see what the man's reaction to his comment would be as he observed him. The way the man had spoken about looking for an old friend, how he looked like him made him cautious. There was only a few that would know him. It was either some underground gang that wanted his skills for something, the Rebels or someone had tracked him down from the conflict on Taris station.

"Well I say then you have made a new friend that looks like your old friend, to that I will drink. The name is Carthus.....Carthus Phoenix Kira, a pleasure to meet you, let me get you a drink. It's been many months since I had a chance to enjoy the life of a city and its bars with another person. Was adrift in space for so long I almost forgot how to socialize let alone drink. So think I too won't be able to hold alcohol either, but they do make a very good Meiloorun Juice if I remember correctly, refreshing and non-alcoholic"

With that Carthus reached back to his belt and opened up another pouch to fish inside for a few more credit chips, this time he left the pouch open however rather than closing it. As he was trying to reach out towards the sensation he had felt he could feel something else ebbing on the edge there, it was a sensation that was tempting him to reach out towards it, like a sweet-smelling meal to a hungry mouth, Carthus had to somewhat fight himself from reaching towards it to see what it was. If something is too good to be true it often was, so he aired on the side of caution.

As Carthus whispered, Rao’s heart skipped a beat out and suddenly his collar was too tight, the lights were blinding, every smell in the bar disgusted him and the man before him became an enemy for the split second it took him to process what exactly he just said. Could Rao had blown his cover to an Imperial agent? Could he be some sort of third party trying to make a buck? Or was he actually the ally that Rao was expecting? It all wasn’t very much to go on, but Carthus’ self description of being a rebel brought the young man confidence, if not in a fleeting moment of fearlessness. The young man pulled at his collar and ran a hand across his brow.

“Well I promise your delinquency is with like minded company. I’ve… been in trouble with the Empire before. Rebellion is an addiction.”

It was a gutsy move. A blatant disregard for the ruling authority on Coruscant, if not a direct insult. If found out, Rao would go down as a nobody trash talking the Empire, but if he was right, Rao could make a new connection, a new ally. Allies are everything in this galaxy, and currently the Mandalorian was in a dire lack of supply of such friends and possessed an abundance of foes. Now that the words were said he had nothing more than to wait and see if his gamble had paid off.

“And by the way, there’s no better drinking buddy than someone who is equally as much of a lightweight as you. What kind of liquor do they have here?”

He added that last part with a slight curl to the corner of his mouth. He could go for a drink.

Rao, while completely unaware of Oddi, would be most upset if she were to pickpocket his contact who one way or another, most likely through foolishness and an utter lack of self control, wound up past out at the end of the bar. He didn’t know for a fact that the man passed out drunk was his contact, but seeing as the only other men in the bar that matched his description were either talking to him right now or leaving with a rather attractive girl on his arm. Rao had kept an eye on the man for the whole of the conversation, but was particularly distracted by Carthus’ comments.

Twitching her now mousey lips, Oddi peripherally eyed the patrons at the bar, looking to liberate some tiny rectangular metal slabs of currency from the pouches of their captors. Now there was an art to picking the perfect pocket. If you find someone too drunk when they’re at the bar, it could mean that they’ve already spent most of their money. No… it would have to be someone just toasted enough to be distractible but still have enough spending money for the snatch to be worth the effort. Normally this would be fairly easy, but… that uncomfortable feeling was driving her batty. It was getting so hard to concentrate. Was she coming down with something?

An obnoxiously loud twi’lek was telling several listeners on about his exploits in the Outer Rim territories, making him a unwitting accomplice to her sticky fingers. She was about to work her own “magic” when she paused, squinting at the blue-tinged blabbermouth. Was he the reason that she was so spaced out? No… it wasn’t him. Oh, thank the stars it wasn’t him! But somewhere… somewhere behind this tentacled braggart was the source of her own distraction. Wake up, numbskull! she screamed internally. Yer gonna botch a good score! Pursing her lips together, she took in a breath and started to reach for…

Yikes! An impeccably dressed human male who was sitting behind the twi’lek, and who bizarrely stood out for no good reason, glanced right in her direction! She turned around, her back facing the man as she hoped against hope that he didn’t catch her in the act. Her morphed ears absentmindedly twisted to listen behind her. It’s him! I’m bein’ drawn to him! Why??? she queried from within. For the first time in a long time, she didn’t have a quick answer. This weirdness had totally thrown her for a loop. Should I give this heist a pass and just walk away? I really need a win here!

Oddi grumbled to herself, swearing in her native language. Reluctantly, she decided to take a step back. It was just too weird, this scenario. But there was this itch that she just couldn’t scratch… an urge against her better judgement to examine this human, despite the potential of getting too much attention. Slowly she glanced back in his direction. Seeing him preoccupied in conversation, she glanced down at his pouch.

    It was wide open.

Ohhhhhh… the temptation! It wasn’t fair! Not one bit!!! She wanted to stomp in frustration. It was too good to be true!!! Was this bait, or was he just some wealthy naive idiot??? Gah!!! She bit her lip hard as she fought the urge to accept this challenge. But… looked at how he’s dressed! Who knows how much he’s got in there! I could eat for a week! her inner gambler egged on. She gritted her teeth. Gotta do it! But I need to be slick. Casual. Coooool… I got this. After her mental pep-talk, she sprang into action.

She approached the bar right next to the man, who continued to speak with his friendly conversation partner. She produced several of the stolen credits for a drink. A necessary investment. “Heya!” she called out and waved her credits at the bartending droid. “A shot of Scariffian rum over here!” As one hand extended above her head for her target to see, the other dexterously slipped into the open pouch…

Carthus could not help but let out a slight chuckle as he noticed the reaction the man had gotten from his comment. Returning to sipping at his drink and looking straight ahead. Even after all he had been through he still had a nature to be a bit of a joker at times. Besides in his mind, the galaxy was dark enough without a bit of humor.

Carthus raised his brows a bit at the response that Rao had made. Rolling the liqueur in his mouth to take in a full flavor for a few moments before swallowing it down.

"Good to see we are of like minds, though I have to comment even for the best attire you may wish to rough it up a tiny bit before venturing out my friend, that mixed with a story about looking for a friend that looks like me but not quite sure and not leading with say a name can be a bit of a mistake. Sometimes it's the little things that can tip a person off. As for what I am drinking it's from my homeworld of Corellia, pretty sharp on the mouth and best to be drunk slow over a good conversation. But it all depends on what you're in the mood for, partying, conversation, deep thoughts or refreshing with a tiny kick to it"

Carthus could feel whatever was causing his senses to go off getting closer to him, he took a guess that it was the person that had taken to sitting next to him. They must have kept to the shadows which could only mean one of a few things. He had his body turned to the person who had approached, as he placed his glass down on the counter towards the middle. It was an odd place to put the glass as it wasn't fully a natural position most people would take. But his eyes looked down on the glass and the light causing it to act as a somewhat murky mirror to look through.

"But yes little things often give the whole thing away, always worth keeping your eyes and mind about you....."

Carthus said continuing the conversation as he continued to watch the glass even as the droid started to move over towards them, he heard the order of a shot of Scariffian rum, he noticed how the hand and been moved from the person who was now waving credits with one hand through the glass. But it was also the movement of the other hand going towards the pouch. A mischievous grin curled upon Carthus lips as he saw this and suddenly pushed outwards towards the sensation he was feeling next to him with his own feelings. There was no malice behind it, more humor.

"......I mean it's almost like someone trying to pick a person's pocket but not paying attention to where their marks eyes would be. Now an experienced thief has to take all these things into consideration. But stealing from an unknown without proper planning is never a good idea, as there are always those with more experience as well as risking upsetting a gang and becoming indebted to them...."

with that, Carthus would turn his head suddenly towards Oddi as he reached towards his glass with the other hand to raise it up in a salute towards them

"....go on take the credits I don't need them, but while your at it why don't you take that necklace out and put it on the counter for me and tell me about yourself"

Carthus said referring to the old hand-carved stone necklace, it was only in the shape of almost a marble at best.

Even though all of this Carthus had kept jolly and cheerful in his words

Oddi froze like a protocol droid on Hoth. She was stunned by this human’s reaction. She was caught… and he wasn’t going to do a thing about it! She had been prepared to bolt if things had gone sour, for that was her first instinct. She had half-expected for someone to scream for the bouncer, and she would have to use her small nimble body to dodge and avoid the muscle at the door. If caught, she would have been held until the police had gotten there… and then what? What kind of justice did they serve on this planet? Oddi hadn’t been here long enough to know for sure.

And now, here was someone offering his pouch to her when he had caught her red-handed trying to relieve him of his credits. What was this??? A joke? A trap? Like the time when she was living on the streets of Zolan, where a seemingly benevolent offer of hospitality lead to her enslavement? But even with her past experiences, she simply couldn’t deny that the first human’s vibe seemed to amplify as soon as he spoke to her. This energy… it was a stranger to her, and yet it felt like home… something she never truly had.

She glanced over at his friend, who wasn’t giving off the same vibe as this guy, but he didn’t seem like a threat to her either. If anything, he looked like he needed a strong drink. There was hardship in his eyes, even through his smile. Another familiarity.

It was here that she realized that it wasn’t the contents of his pouch that intrigued her after all. Not now. For some reason, this meeting was important. She had always desperately wanted to have someone… anyone… treat her like she was someone that mattered. And here were these humans… wanting to listen to a total stranger who they knew was trying to steal their money. She found herself compromised. She simply didn’t have the heart to take the money and run.

She was about to knowingly make another large gamble. She was going to give them a chance.

She dropped the credits before she could pull them out of the pouch, and pulled out the necklace instead, which she slowly placed onto the bar, all while keeping her eyes fixed upon the two strangers. She then allowed her morphed ears and bat-like fuzz to recede, giving way to her natural reptilian skin. Oddi now sat before the two, exposed as a young malnourished clawdite. And when she finally spoke, with a look of shock locked upon her face, she lost the desire to make a snappy and deceitful remark as a defense mechanism. Instead, she asked the most honest and pure question that she had asked in years.

    “Why are you different?”

Mildly freaked out, Rao watched the interaction between the two unfold and thought about the situation for a moment. He began to wonder about the little things. Carthus seemed like some vagabond bad boy that had an endless amount of wit and cunning, possibly something more. He seemed to take no offense at Rao’s relatively clumsy attempts at espionage. He suddenly felt very red in the face and wished to be better at his job. And to top it off, he had been nothing but polite to their new acquaintance. Oddi, a similarly graceful individual, whom he could already tell had a streak for acts that could be thought of as both daring and reckless. He couldn’t feel anything less than empathy for the two. Rao was grateful to be in such good company.

This third party had entered with the intention of theft, which he did not care much for, but also understood in a certain way. The young Clawdite was barely a child. Rao remembered his brief time on Raxus as an orphan. He remembered what it’s like to have to fight and steal and take. Hardship isn’t in any short supply in this universe. The Mandalorian knew what it was like to want for kinship and a sense of belonging . He signaled for the droid to pour him a drink of what the Corellian whiskey to start off, finally giving in to that little voice in his head that told him to have some fun.

“The question you should be asking isn’t how are we different, it’s how all three of us are the same? Personally, I think it’s that none of us want to be alone.” He said as his glass was poured. He took a small drink and forced the liquid down. It did not agree with him naturally but that wouldn't stop him tonight. It's the little things.

Carthus watched Oddis reaction, he had half expected that she may run but it appeared she didn't. At least not yet, that alone caused him to smile all be it mostly to himself. Though Carthus had no doubt in his mind that she was probably wanting to run, who could blame a thief who had been caught from wanting to escaping and slink back into the shadows? To stay out of sight of the world and the people around it. Sith spit he had wanted it for himself at one point.

Carthus pulled himself back and stopped pushing actively towards the feeling he had, so it appeared that his instincts about the person here had been right. Though he was not wise enough to explain it all fully himself, having only picked up a few tricks so to speak along the way.

As the hand slipped away from his pouch leaving the weight of the credits in place he slowly finished his drink, the amber liquid vanishing from the glass as he swallowed it down. Placing the glass on the counter he held it in place to stop the droid from taking it away from him. Though his eyebrows did raise seeing the state of the girl as the transformation happened before his eyes, the sight of her caused a momentary pang of sympathy to hit him, having only recently recovered from being in a similar state himself. The question that she asked however caused him to pause for a few moments.

But he smiled hearing Rao talk about what made all three of them the same, as he turned to look over towards him noticing the drink that was now in his hand.

Carthus watched as he drank the liquid down, chuckling a bit as he smiled

"Word of advice, hold a small bit of it in your mouth and slowly drink the sip. Burns a bit less"

Carthus then turned back towards Oddis

"That is a question I have asked myself a lot lately, I won't lie though to you. I grew up without want but I was taught what it meant to need at a young age, had my family been different I may be much like the marks you seek. Uncaring for most and throwing money at fake friendship, bought friends but not true loyalty or friendship, but not me that's not the way my Father taught me to be. But I also learned what it was to be alone when I lost my family long ago and was left alone to nothing but the night time and stealing for the thrill of it more than to survive. So guess I am different because I too am or perhaps was a thief. But I think you mean why am I different in another way, and that would be because I am more like you than you can imagine or even I can understand fully. But first, why don't you let me get you something to eat, trade you it for your story.....fair deal? I imagine that you like me grew up with nothing comes free, so hows that for fair trade, anything you want to eat as much as you want for your story. And while you do that I try to think of a good way to explain why We are different from most"

Carthus said the last words emphasizing the We part of it.

"As for what makes us three the same, I would say well......we are all sat at a bar. Talking and looking in need of some good company"

Oddi bit her lip. She realized that she had asked quite the loaded question. However, the first human seemed to understand what she meant, even if the other human seemed confused. She glanced over at the necklace. She had a brief thought that maybe there was some personal significance to this bauble. But when guy number one mentioned buying nourishments for her, she found her mouth watering desperately at the thought.

It was about twenty minutes later when food was being served at a table that they had chosen to occupy on the floor. Unable to restrain herself, Oddi ripped into the meat that had been placed before her. She had only had true, quality food like this several times in her life. Most of her life she had only had access to rations, monzu jerky, portion packs, a plethora of insects on Zolan, and, if she was lucky, milk of whatever species was available. But ohhhh… this juicy lump of bantha was heaven.

Before and during the meal, Oddi managed to give her generous new associates the short version of her life… about the family that hardly acknowledged her existence, her encounter with the factory management and the burn on her shoulder, her enslavement after she had been tricked into accepting hospitality, and the skills that she had managed to learn in the fencing outfit that enslaved her. She particularly emphasized her mechanical and electrical skills. That was one thing she prided herself on… the ability to fix anything that came her way. However, no one on this planet had been willing to give her a chance due to her youthful appearance.

“It was my enslavement that brought me here,” she told the two men with her mouth still slightly full. “I was bought by a human who decided that I would be handy… well, I kinda talked him into it… but he died when we got here. He just walked on th’ platform and keeled over. I swear that I had nothin’ to do with that.” She began to shovel in whatever the side dish was. It was a curious mix of sweet and savory, though. Pretty delicious. “So essentially *burp* I freed myself, but as you can see, it didn’t pan out very well. I’ve been survivin’ on pickin’ pockets and playin’ my kloo horn for money. There was no way that I was gonna let those suits toss me into that orphanage. Just another slavery racket.” She took a long drink. Then, as she brought down her glass, looked at the two before her. She addressed Carthus first, narrowing her eyes inquisitively. “So I do think you knew my meanin’ with my question, even though you were kinda squiffy about it. That weird feelin’. It’s all around you, whatever it is. Never felt anythin’ like it… I’m supposin’ that that’s why I was so determined to pick yer pouch.” She turned back to Rao. “And yer a mystery and-a-half. I can tell you got some kinda story too. You don’t look much like yer from around here. It’s not yer clothes. It’s mannerisms. You keep looking around you. Yer trying to fit in. I know my own.” She smirked at him, already feeling better with a happy, full stomach.

“Damn, my own eyes have betrayed me.” Rao smirked at how he easily he could be picked out. In the past twenty minutes he had learned how slowly sip, through occasional trial and error. He listened to Oddi and let her story ring in his ears. Freedom without direction is in itself a prison. A small child being put out into the world with little more than their hands and cunning, it’s hard to not empathize. When Rao had been freed, in a certain sense of the word, he had known exactly what he needed to do. The only thing that he could have thought to be worse, would be if he had been left alive without any reason to live.

He motioned for Oddi to come closer. “I am in fact a super secret rebel spy on a mission straight from the Galactic Council themselves that will decide the fate of the galaxy.” He whispered to her just loud enough for Carthus to hear.

“Now if you’ll excuse me for just a moment.” Rao got up and walked down the bar, his gait slightly wavering from the alcohol. The drunk at the end snored quietly as the Rebel tapped him on the shoulder and whispered something into his ear. The drunk mumbled something back that was entirely unconscious and opened his previously clenched fist, revealing a datastick.

Rao traipsed his way back to the two and took his seat. He wiggled the datastick in his fingers in a goofy manner and put it safely into his jacket inside pocket.

“Mission accomplished. The galaxy is saved.”

Carthus had sat mostly silent at the table, though he had occasionally nodded and shown that he had been listening to what was going on around him.

But mostly Carthus thoughts were still on about how to explain things to this young Clawdite, explain something that he didn't know much on himself other than a few things here and there. Was it fair to open that door and leave her without a guide or a person to really help someone along, especially at that age? Though Carthus had no doubt in his mind the kid had aged a lot from her times on the streets, age brought some more understanding into the picture that often exposure and experience didn't always bring.

Carthus was now nursing his second whiskey. Smiling some at Oddi's comment about not only him but also on Rao looking over at Rao once again raising his glass in a semi-salute to him.

"I can say though that having had a family that helped build and run an orphanage that not all are so badShe's perceptive you have to give her that, maybe you should start wearing glasses"

    Carthus chuckled a bit

"I can say though that having had a family that helped build and run an orphanage that not all are so bad"

He returned to listening to the stories unfolding. Smiling some at the mention of being a super secret rebel spy and then moving off. Causing him to raise his brows, but his eyes soon fell upon bouncers starting to look towards them and whispering going on. But Carthus attention returned back towards Rao and his datastick causing a smile.

"If only it was that simple. many more missions to go on I am sure before that happens. Not that I am officially involved in any such aspects. But that may change, as it may for you as well Oddi. But I could not promise anything, certain choices you have to make on your own. I have started on my own path of understanding what that feeling is. Though between you and me perhaps it is best to not be too open about discussing such things after all people who can......"

As Carthus spoke he took the necklace out of his pocket again and held it in his open hand looking at the object, taking in a slow deep breath and exhaled. Carthus began to pool what he could of the force around him for a few moments, lifting the necklace ever so slightly above the palm of his hand

"...do things like that, often gain far too much attention than those who can't"

With that he let the necklace drop back into the palm of his hand once again, letting the force he had started to draw upon dispel around him. Carthus knew he had limited control over what he could do, as well as limited knowledge. But he had decided telling the kid something was better than trying to avoid it and cause her to become more curious and possibly lead her into trouble

“Galactic Alliance?” Oddi questioned in the same hushed tone that Rao used. She was intrigued, although she thought he was being awfully trusting with her and Carthus to reveal that kind of information. She might’ve been more skeptical about it if she didn’t witness him retrieve that datastick from the supposed drunk several tables away.

Oddi was a bit naive about the matters of state in this system, and the politics and intrigue that came with it. She knew of the Imperial Republic… somewhat. She knew that she couldn’t help but feel a bit intimidated when she first saw all of the propaganda that now surrounded her on a daily basis. Frankly, it left a bad taste in her mouth. But having lived on Zolan for most of her life she hadn’t heard a lot of news from other planets or systems. Most of what she knew about any politics or interplanetary events she learned from her short time on Coruscant, and with media suddenly being all around her it was a bit overwhelming. But this thing… this alliance Rao spoke of… she had only heard slight media mentions but hadn’t been able to pay attention long enough to absorb anything substantial yet. She was about to ask Rao what the Alliance was exactly when her ears picked up a bit of noise toward the bar entrance. She glanced up to see several bouncers entering the room, as opposed to just the one brute. But as much as this alarmed her, this was nothing compared to what she saw next.

As the necklace began to float in Carthus’ hand, Oddi’s eyes widened as her mouth fell agape. For a split second she thought that he was playing a clever trick, maybe with magnets. She knew how magnets could achieve amazing effects that might cause one to believe it was magic. But this was different. She could feel the energy emanate from him as he caused the necklace to levitate briefly.

“How??? How is that possible???” She whispered as she gawked.

However, her attention was immediately diverted back to the bouncers… who were heading their way. “Uh… guys?” she gulped, “I think I may be in a little bit of a pickle. Heh… um… if you’ll pardon me…” And with that, she deftly slipped under the table.

The Mandalorian returned the salute with a slight nod. The man’s comment about his family raised some curiosity in Rao. The Mandalorian culture he had grown up with an intense value of family and the connections between people. He rolled his eyes at the glasses comment and for a moment was embarrassed, but grew to chuckle at it after a moment.

“An orphanage? Must have been trying on the family. I couldn’t imagine having more than two brothers to deal with.”

The rebel settled his attention on Oddi as she repeated what he had said. It dawned on him that not everyone’s lives revolved around warfare, or more accurately for Rao, terrorism. Had he not been adopted by a Mandalorian, he could have easily been just as unquestioning at the state of the galaxy.

“It’s umm… difficult to explain.” His disposition was a little less enthusiastic, having realized that he and Carthus had just opened a metaphorical can of worms for the Clawdite.

The man listened on as Carthus spoke, and then he watched in apprehension as he levitated the necklace in his hand. Rao reflexively slowly sat against the back of his seat and set his glass down with an audible clank.

“Some people can just do that Oddi. And oftentimes they can do much more.” He said, his tone making it evident that he was freaked out. When Oddi ducked under the table, he looked around and saw the bouncers coming their way. He may have been under the influence, but he could still smell a fight about to come. He instinctively slipped his hand under his jacket and slipped his stun baton into his sleeve.

Carthus smiled for a moment but he also looked sad thinking back to the Orphanage, it had been so long since he had been there last it seemed. And now with all that had gone on, the chances of returning anytime soon grew less and less. But also he wondered what happened to the people that had grown up there around his age.

"It was a bit of a family tradition, in the end, something that went back in my family as far back as our records went. It was built by an ancestor of mine. There was a story that said long ago the man failed a group of children when he was young and always looked to make up for that mistake. Our family honored that commitment......but it wasn't without its perks. A few taught me how to pick locks and sneak around. I was an only child so having all of the other kids helped"

For a while it seemed Carthus was lost in thought, would he be the last one of his family to take care of such a place. Then his eyes looked at the Clawdite for a moment, or perhaps it was time to look after those outside of the planet more. Not so much looking after the few that managed to make it to the building or were sent for refuge. Carthus looked at his now empty glass partly wishing he hadn't finished it because now was the time for a drink.

But soon he forced himself to smile again as he began to slip the necklace back into position, nodding at the Galatic alliance comment

"Seems you and I may run in similar circles"

    He said to Rao

Carthus heard the question but then seeing her move under the table, as his eyes went back towards the bouncers making their way over towards them he took in a slow deep breath and exhaled, pushing up from his seated position as he took a hold of the empty glass and raised it towards Rao muttering

"Get her outside, I will distract them for a while"

With that, he began to stumble away from the table speaking loudly

"OI OI !! whats this !!! this was not a double...... WE NEED MORE DRINKS !!! where are those buckets of bolts WE NEED DRINKS I WANT DRINKS !!!"

Carthus was stumbling towards the bouncers before he launched his glass towards one of the droids

    "OI !!! "

So a someone had been stealing on their watch, that would not go without some form of payment. It angered them and they would have their revenge on who ever it was. Even if it was a child, children needed to be punished and they were more than happy to deal out the punishment. Dranos, Krullk and Sulga, three large Houks, had decided to make an example that no one messed with the establishment least they lost their jobs or credits be taken out of their pockets. It had not taken them long to see that a child was in the bar first of all, where children were not allowed. Should the child be caught having stolen then they would handle the child before giving her to the authorities on the planet or maybe make a few credits on the side to slavers.

Did that human just smash a glass ? And what was it rambling about ?. Either way no one breaks up the place other than them

"You pay for that, then you leave"

Dranos said in basic with a thick accent that showed it was not the Houk mother tongue, the other two had stopped beside Dranos, until they were waved along to move on towards the table. People were being disturbed by this man and that impacted the establishments profit, that was bad for business and that would stop one way or another
