How did he always seem to calm her down every time she needed it? It must have been some vampire spell. Everytime he put his arm around her she just felt safe and cared for. Emily leaned into it, sighing from as she relieved the stress, and then looked up into his eyes as he tried to promise her everything would be fine. She wished she could believe him. Things haven't been fine since she ran into his life. Or rather when he walked into her life. It seemed he'd saved her then only to doom her to a life of being saved again and again. Emily really hoped that cycle would end soon.

August would kiss her cheek and they'd be on their way once more. Her hand fluttered up to her cheek where she could still feel his lips and that made her smile some. She then leaned back into him and clutched his arm as they drove, hoping her could steer with one arm. As they drove he came to the conclusion they had at least a day and she'd nod on response. Serenity was going to show up around that time. And if he was taking her to some mountain...maybe he could find food up in that direction too. If not he could always get some before or after the witch's company.

    Actually...

"You should take Serenity with you," she offered out of nowhere. "You two could...look out for one another. Keep each other safe while I'm not there..."

Emily didn't like the idea of him going off with another girl, but it was better knowing he'd be protected with her powers to watch his back. That was more important right now.

When her arms wrapped around his, he dropped his hand from the steering wheel to the shifter to give her more room to hold onto. When she mentioned that he should take Serenity with him, he froze up a bit. "What?" was all that escaped him. He looked down at her for a second before looking back at the road. She went on to explain her thoughts. It was a nice gesture from her end, wanting him to be safe while she's not around...but her choice of company was leaving a bit to be desired. "As nice as the gesture is, I don't know how well that will go down. Has she ever even faced guys like the Shadow Hunters before? Or even Iscariot for that matter?" he thought out loud.

But he did see where she was coming from. He was supposed to train her and what better chance than to tag her along. Besides, as much as he hated to admit it, he could do with a proper hunt for his meal again. There was only one problem. "Alright. I guess I can tag her along...but what about you? If you're alone at home then there might be problems. So who's going to watch over you if me and Serenity is gallivanting all over Tokyo?" his voice became more concerned as he stole another look at her. He could always ask the church to send a couple guys over but that will be quite a stretch. Innocent or not, she's still a demon which goes up a little higher on their enemy list than the rest, and if they found out about her blood, that will just open up another can of worms.

August did not take kindly to her idea. She would pull away from him and return to sitting in her spot properly. "You're right. Sorry. It was a stupid idea." She didnt actually think that. Emily had no idea if Serenity had faced people in a fight before. But she figured like all the other members of their weird little cult they trained for battle daily. The vampire witch would be more than capable of defending herself.

Further making his point August would ask her who'd be watching out for her whilst he and his pupil were away. She gave him a look saying she didn't want to say it out loud, but..."I could always ask.... Grandma Aeryun...."

She pulled away and immediately he felt bad for snapping like that. He rested his hand on her shoulder, giving it a tight squeeze. "Hey, it's not a stupid idea. Sure it's not perfect but it's definitely not stupid." he spoke reassuringly.

They reached the house when she decided to drop her solution on him. His hand dropped from her shoulder and his head slowly turned to look at her with wide eyes. "Now that is a stupid idea." he said with a small nod. And he believed what he said. She knew their history and now she wants to bring his oldest nemesis right into his home. But who was he to deny her from seeing her family? Besides she'll most certainly be safe as houses with that crazy old witch watching over her. And if Emily being safe and happy meant letting go of this old rivalry between him and Aeryn, he was willing to do it.

He looked down at his lap for a few moments with closed eyes. "Alright. She can come over. I'm willing to let her in if it means you'll be safe. Just...try and prep her for when me and Serenity come through that door. I don't want to turn the house into a warzone." he finished with a chuckle as he looked back at Emily. "If it means you're happy then I'm happy." he pulled her into a hug and gave her a kiss on the lips before resting his head on her shoulder. It was a massive risk he was taking but he was willing to do it for her.

To him trying to comfort her she merely gave him a small smile. There wasn't anything else to say on that subject. She would again feel low as he said inviting her demon hunter grandmother into his house. She could understand his apprehension to wanting to stay clear of her, but he didn't know Aeryun like she did. That person she used to be...was a long time ago.

Emily was about to get out of the car now that they were back in the garage but August's words stopped her. She let go of the handle and looked at him as he thought over her plan. He was willing to let Grandma Aeryun come around to protect her. She was grateful he saw it her way, but knew how hard that was on him. He'd give her a hug and a kiss, then rest his head on her shoulder. She instantly started petting his head with her nails.

"I promise you. Grandma Aeryun is a living person. She won't have any reason to hurt you. Especially not since I'm around for you."

Feeling her hand pat his head and hearing her voice reassuring him brought a smile to his face. He pressed his head against hers with a feint hum. He just held her in that position, enjoying having her so close. "Well thank goodness you're around." he spoke with a chuckle and gave a final kiss on the cheek before letting her go and getting out of the car.

He popped the trunk and took most of the bags into the house in one go, leaving only the lightest items for Emily to carry. He placed the groceries on the kitchen counter and started packing everything away in their respective spots. He was definitely nervous, having Aeryun come over and loafing in his house, but at least Emily will be safe and that was enough for him. When all that was done, he leaned against the counter and folded his arms across his chest. What was there to do? They could probably collapse on the couch and watch a movie, go out and do something, he was stumped. With Clara running around, the idea of running into her again was quite distasteful and his Netflix account is a bit in arrears at the moment, so those ideas were pretty much shot down.

He looked over to Emily with a smirk. "So what do you want to do next?

Emily smiled when he mentioned he was happy she was around. It make her hum right back when he chuckled and she gave him another good scratches over his head before the both of them moved and left the car. She helped with the lighter bags and set them down onto the countertops for him to put stuff away. She watched him put everything in its rightful place and handed him stuff she figured would likely go with it. Obviously the cold stuff went to the fridge so she helped with that much.

When all was put away he'd lean against the counter and ask her what she wanted to do. She looked around and shrugged, "Well, we got food for me. I ordered some supplies for Bastillian on my credit card the other night. So that will come in the mail soon. Hopefully. We just need to get you food, but you said you were handling that." She'd turn and purse her lips. Nothing really came to her. "What would you normally be doing if I wasn't here? I'd probably be reading my books. But those....oh yeah. Got destroyed by the demons. Such a pity."

August stared at her for a moment, thinking about what she said. "Well...usually I just watch a movie, work stuff out with Iscariot...sometimes get into more illegal vehicular activities if the opportunity arises." he thought out loud. An idea crept into his mind as a smile crept onto his lips. He stood up and walked over to her, wrapping his arms around her torso as he kissed her forehead. "A pity indeed. Books are such sentimental items." he gave her a kiss on the lips. "As for what we can do now...well I can think of a thing or two that might be a lot more entertaining than reading." he spoke softly, his eyes flashing a quick red glow as he looked down into her eyes and holding her tight against him. His hands slowly glided down her back and came to a halt right over her bottom, giving it a soft squeeze.

He leaned down again and his lips met hers as he held her close, simply enjoying her being so close against him. After a few minutes of kissing like that he lifted her up and set her down onto the counter, their kiss not breaking once. His hands moved down and came to a halt on top of her legs. His thumbs gently rubbed her thighs, asking her permission without using words before doing anything else.

Emily would roll her eyes to his statement of driving his car unsafely, dangerously, and illegally. She was glad he drove safe when she was in the car. She had no desire to be thrown from the window again. She had been lucky her instincts kicked in when they did and she turned to her ghost form otherwise she would have had a lot more healing to do that night. He'd then come over to her and wrap his arms around her tiny frame. She didn't think anything of it at first, merely closing her eyes to his kiss. But when he then mentioned with a sly grin about some fun activities they could do she realized he was holding her pretty tightly.

Playfully, she squirmed in his grasp and bit her lip while she looked into his eyes that were getting red. She knew that look. It was a look of lust and his inner demon. She gulped and then squeaked as she felt her butt being squeezed. Before she could protest he was kissing her again and Emily did what she always did: she hummed in pleasure and kissed him right back. Her body melted into his as she tried to get closer without the use of her hands. Why was he so good at this?

They kissed like that for what felt like forever, and yet also not long enough. She still couldn't move her arms and that was frustrating her. She wanted to touch him, to explore his muscles, his cold skin. But all she could do was put her hands against his legs and that did nothing for her. When he picked her up, she squeaked and broke the kiss for a moment before he took her lips back from her. She didn't mind. She loved surrendering to him. And when his thumbs rubbed at her inner thighs she moaned and would split her legs as much as she could in this awkward position.

Her legs parted and his hands moved up to relieve her of her shorts and underwear. He gave her one las kiss on the lips, then a kiss on the neck, then he crouched down while his hands rested on her legs. He gave a final sly grin before his eyes turned red and his pupils stretched into thin, vertical slits. His fangs extended and out of his mouth came a long, sharp tongue, easily long enough to wrap around her neck. He looked down and made excellent work in giving her a whole new experience...

Hours had passed and once again the ropes were tied to the bed. Of course she wasn't tied up anymore and he was next to her. One arm rested behind his bed while the other was wrapped around her. His left hand gently caressed her back and the base of her wings. Somewhere through their shenanigans her necklace had come off, giving both of them quite a startle when the place filled up with black feathers. But now they were just resting around the two of them lazily. It was night time, but thank goodness Serenity will only be coming over tomorrow so they still had the night to themselves. He looked at his left hand, the ring glistening proudly in the moonlight.

The sounds of crickets around them, the sound of Emily's steady heartbeat and the sound of peaceful silence all calmed him. Were he still human it would have acted as a lullaby to him, but now he simply laid back and enjoyed the sounds.

Now that her arms were no longer restrained Emily would move her hands up to play with his chest as his hands pulled away her under garments. She began pulling his shirt off, undoing the buttons as best as she could, until he stopped her by leaning in and kissing her again. She moaned as his kiss trailed down to her neck and then he pulled away and would lean down. She watched him and then gasped as he slightly transformed himself into his vampiric form, giving her a taste of something wonderful. Or rather, giving him a taste.

Another long session of sinful activities left Emily completely exhausted. She felt like her whole body had melted from all the squeezing, twitching, and tensing she'd done. It was one hell of a work out and again she found herself succumbing to sweet blissful slumber in his caring arms. She was already burning up from their fun and his cold body was the perfect temperature to cool her down. With her arms curled up in her chest, her legs wrapped around one of his, and her wings taking up the rest of the bed behind her, she drifted off to sleep without a care in the world.

When morning came she found she had been shivering sometime during her loss of time, but at least he'd taken to giving her a blanket. She woke up sleepily yet well rested and wanting nothing more than to take a long hot shower. She poked him in his chest and got him to move and practically sleep walked into the bathroom to relieve herself before turning on the water and stepping in. She rested her head against the tile as the water ran down her hair, horns, and wings, making her muscles relax even more than they were the night before. The unrest of her body in a single position left her a little stiff, but the shower would rectify that soon enough.

As the night went on he kept lying next to her, simply enjoying the peace. While he didn't feel the cold at all, she did. Eventually he felt her shivering in the night and covered her up in the blankets as best he could with her wings in the way. Finally she seemed to warm up and her shivering stopped. He relaxed once again while his mind drifted. He wished that he could keep her warm, produce some body heat to comfort her. But alas that would never happen. He had long since stopped walking among the living, now he'll only be fit to walk the earth as a corpse, unable to feel the cold breeze in the night or the warmth of a woman's touch. Despite all the perks vampirism held, he would give it all up for one day of having his humanity restored and his soul returned to him. Sadly no amounts of prayers, sermons, blessings or attempts of redemption will ever give that back.

He shook his head lightly, snapping out of his thoughts. What did he have to complain about? He was lying in bed with the love of his life with the opportunity to spend an eternity with her, with the means to provide for her and keep her safe. He had no reason to complain.

And yet the thought still gnawed at him.

Morning came and she stirred awake in his arms. He felt a poke against his chest and opened his arms for her to stand up. He smirked as she wandered over to the shower like a zombie. He swore he could hear her joints clicking and resetting with every step from the previous night's activities. His eyes lingered for a while longer on her figure before the door closed. He was tempted to jump in there and take a shower with her, help her with her wings and other hard-to-reach places, but he decided against it. Let her take her shower in peace.

He got out of bed, threw on a pair of boxers and a gown to cover himself up then made for the kitchen. While she was washing up, he was preparing breakfast for her just how she liked it. The breakfast was done and she should be done by now as well, getting a nose full of the amazing breakfast as soon as she exited the shower. Everything was ready for her to just dig in and enjoy.

    Then the doorbell rang.

He cocked his head as he came to a halt in front of the door and looked through the peephole. He groaned and opened his door. "It's a little early isn't it?"

Emily would finally start to wake up in the shower and clean herself off from all the sweat and other sticky things she left on herself. She didn't bother cleaning her wings, merely letting them get wet. When she was done she wasted yet another four towels to completely dry off before leaving the room. She would be met with the heavenly smells of breakfast while August would be able to smell the shampoo of crimson roses on her. Not that he minded her scent of sulfur which he was quickly becoming accustomed to.

Emily was just about to compliment him on the way the food smelled when the doorbell rang. How annoying. She gave a groan and retreated back to the bedroom to put on some clothes. As August went to the doorbell he saw someone he really didn't expect: the shadow Hunter from last night. He opened the door for Clara when the smell of blood hit him. Hard. Clara was not alone, and August would realize she was covered in blood. But not hers, the boy she was practically struggling to support over her shoulder. He had green hair and was wearing a gray shirt with a wolf pawprint necklace around his throat. But his shirt was ripped open and his skin was slashed in several places.

Clara, who was now wearing something far more normal, a fancy top with sleeves that avoided the shoulders, looked at August desperately, "Please! I didn't know who else to go to. You have to help me!"

He couldn't believe it. Right here in front of him stood none other than Clara Lighthawk. And it appeared she brought along a canine friend as well. The guy looked bad, clearly he had been through quite the fight. But what did it matter. The guy was a werewolf and he wasn't in the mood for either her or her little pooch. The smell of sulphur and rose-scented shampoo mixed with the dog's blood and he knew Emily was done. Oh what perfect timing.

"Okay. First: You could have taken your little mongrel here to the vet two miles down the road. Second: Just because I worked as a field medic a couple decades ago doesn't mean I'm actually a doctor. Thirdly: He smells like wet dog." he spoke flatly, not even bothering to change his neutral expression. He slammed the door shut in her face, but then the guilt hit him. Who was he to turn away a person in need? Werewolf or otherwise? He let out a long sigh and opened the door again. "Damn you, Lighthawk." he said coldly, grabbing the kid and throwing him over his neck, army style. He carried him into the house and laid him down on the coffee table.

He tore open the kid's shirt and looked him over, scowling all the way. "Jeez, Clara. What did you do with him? Throw him through a woodchipper? He's bleeding out but I think I can help him. One moment." he rushed to the kitchen, grabbing a bunch of stuff that could work for an emergency operation. He passed Emily as he rushed out. "Emily, stay back. The guy's hurt bad." he laid the stuff out on the couch and looked back at Clara. "Okay, I'm going to need your help. Stand across from me."

The thought had crossed his mind that the guy could easily be patched up with Emily's blood but no way was he going to give up her secret or ask that of her. He handed Clara a cloth to wipe up the blood and checked the wounds over. They were deep. Odds of him being able to stabilise the guy and stop the bleeding was pretty slim. "You should have taken him to a doctor, Clara. I can't guarantee that I'll be able to save him." he looked at the kid who was clearly in pain. "Hey, kid. Not gonna lie...this is going to hurt."

As August looked down Clara and her mutt in the doorway he started throwing insults in her face. She was about to protest something about her predicament when the door slammed in her face. Clara's heart dropped. He seriously wasn't going to help them? She was frozen, completely baffled that this man would turn away help just because he didn't care for her family. Thankfully she hadn't managed to turn away yet for he hoped it back up a moment and then swore at her.

Clara retreated only for a moment as August picked the teen up over his shoulder and carrying him in the house. She snapped back into her combat mode and ran after to make room for him on the coffee table. While August began pulling away the ruined fabric he'd ask her way she'd done to him. "We got jumped ok?" she'd shout as he began running around the place. She then leaned down and started stroking his head as the boy grumbled in pain.

Hearing someone else's voice, Emily would start to peek her head out from the doorway when August swung by to grab a few things. He explained someone was hurt and she was to stay away. She looked at him in confusion and then turned back around to finish getting dressed hurriedly. She'd already thrown on some tights and her bra, so she tore into her clothes to find a pair of jean shorts and a tank top to toss on. Her wings were out still and she had no idea who was on the other side so before actually tossing on the top she'd perform her ritual to return to human form; this time, she changed her hair back to purple because she was used to doing that when she disguised herself.

While Emily was finishing in the room August would return to Clara's side and direct her to stand opposite the kid. She'd tag the rag and start cleaning the wound as best as she could. August would again complain that she could have taken him to a doctor and she snapped this time. "You don't think I know that! There wasn't time. You were closest." If she was wasn't already in a sour mood she might have tried to make a joke out of it, something like, "Oh yeah. A werewolf in a mundane hospital. What could go wrong?"

Emily would then return to them and look over from the other side of the room. She saw the blood and gasped loudly. Clara looked up only for a moment and then returned her gaze to the bleeding werewolf who was currently groaning in agony. Emily took a shuddering breath and then took control of her nerves. She came over and picked up a rag and began to wipe away some of the blood as she knelt down on the other side of Clara. She said nothing, allowing her actions to say she was there to help. All the while, thoughts kept swirling through her head that she could save him if she'd just give over her blood....

August tried his best to figure out where to stop the bleeding, but in all his years of warfare he never managed to treat something this severely. Not with supernaturals in any case. "If I'm not mistaken he's supposed to be healing up himself. What happened?" he spoke as he worked.

Emily eventually sat down next to Clara to try and help as best she could, but there was little they could do. With a massive struggle August managed to stop the bleeding out of all his major lacerations, but one under the right ribcage didn't stop.

August felt inside the wound and let out a heavy sigh as his head dipped down. "His liver is practically torn in two. I...can't stop the bleeding." he said gravely. He looked back up at Emily.

His eyes were screaming it, his tongue was rolling in his mouth. He wiped some sweat off his brow, leaving behind a bloody stripe on his forehead that he didn't even notice.

He couldn't ask it of her. Her secret was too important...but so was saving a life. Only this life belonged to his natural enemy...but he was just a boy.

So many emotions swirled in his head and while he tried to think of what to do, the kid was bleeding out on his table. He swallowed hard and looked at Emily. "I have no right to ask this of you...but I have to." he said with a voice filled with remorse, regret and guilt. He knew that she knew what he was talking about.

He held a finger up and a nail extended, sharp enough to cut through her wrist with little effort. If she agreed to it he would make a small cut over her wrist and help the kid to drink her blood.

Against all his attempts, the kid was not healing the way he should. August would ask Clara what had happened and she replied while sponging up another puddle of blood. "It was demons. We were ambushed. It was stupid. We shouldn't have been out there."

Clara sniffled but threw it away quickly and returned to her story with cold remorse. "We found a lead, a Faerie who's been handing out deals lately. So Daniel and I followed her. We should have had our gear. But I didn't want to lose the trail. It tricked us. Opened a portal and demons came jumping at us. I had my sword with me, but Daniel ended up getting hurt taking a blow for me. This is my fault. I should be the one lying there. Then at least we could use an Iratze to heal me."

An Iratze, was the name of an angelic healing rune that could be drawn onto a shadow hunter's arm with one of their adamas steles, metal wands essentially used for drawing symbols to fight and defend with. All of the Nephilim -another term for the Shadow Hunters- carried those adamas tools and that's why their skin was always colored with darkened tattoos that faded over time depending on how long their effect lasted. But the only catch to their magical ability was that they only worked on the Nephilim. If anyone else who did not have Angel blood in them tried to draw on their skin they'd be severely burned.

They worked more in silence until August sighed and explained that Daniel's liver would not stop bleeding. He couldn't fix the kid. August looked up to Emily and she could see in his eyes their only option. She turned to Clara who was stone faced. No amount of sorrow was in her eyes. Just stubbornness to keep trying. She really was a fighter. August then looked to his hand where he was drawing a nail from his vampire side. He then asked the question, or more or less asked for permission. Emily looked at the nail and then to Clara.

"Do it quick, then take Clara out of the room."

"Wait what-?" the girl was about to ask when a blur of vampiric speed rushed her to the other side of the house. She stumbled back and fell back onto her butt as August had set her down on her feet -which she was not ready for. "Hey! What the hell!"

In the other room Emily suddenly winced as her body caught up with her. She looked down at the pain and saw a deep gash in her wrist. She wasn't sure where her blood started or where Daniel's did. But now they were mixing together and starting to steam. She made a disgusted sound as she pushed her wrist toward the kid's mouth and forced him to close his lips around the wound. That was one thing she knew about her powers: if exposed to air it was useless. He had to drink her blood while it was still in her body. Why that mattered they'd never figured out. But it prevented anyone from taking it other than from the source. Which also made it that much more valuable.

It would take Emily at least a half hour to get the werewolf back to full strength. So as much time as August could give Emily was needed...because Clara wasn't about to be separated from her boyfriend....

He gave her a small nod at her request. He felt awful for asking it of her but in this position he didn't see any other way.

He stood up and walked over to stand next to her. He took her arm and sliced through her wrist, deep enough to keep it open for a while but not so deep to make her bleed out. He gave her a kiss on the cheek and whispered a quick thank you before moving over to Clara and picking her up in his arms. He walked with her to the garage and placed her down on her feet. With the amounts of blood they were covered in he didn't want to stain the rest of his house as well.

Of course this series of actions would be little more than a blur and neither Emily nor Clara would notice the kiss or kind words and Clara would simply be falling onto her bottom on top of cold, hard concrete before she could realise what was happening.

August closed the door behind him with his foot, trying to not smear blood all over the place. He stood in front of the door with his arms hanging loosely by his sides. "For all our sakes it's better if you don't go back in there for a while." he spoke sternly as he looked down at her. He walked over to her and held a bloody hand out to help her stand up. The smell of the kid's blood was sour and pungent. He looked back up to a corner in the garage. A sink with soap was sitting there. "Come on, let's get ourselves cleaned up." he said with a feint smile and ushered her towards it, whether she wanted to or not.

Any attempt by her to get into the house for the next half hour would be met with her being pushed back, thrown back, winded with a fist or knee to the gut and many, many requests and warnings to stay in the garage. "What is he doing with you? You're Shadow Hunters. Since when do you use werewolves and other creatures in your order?" he asked her eventually. And it was a legitimate question. The fact that she cared so much about the kid was strange. He could be a family member, but the resemblance wasn't there and neither was the scent. No, this was something else.

"Why do you care so deeply for that mutt? What's he to you?" he asked with a frown. He might be willing to help the werewolf. But no way would he just be all nice and friendly with his arch enemy.

He had a hunch, but he couldn't be sure. He needed to know.

"Yeah I think not!" the girl said as she got to her feet and started trying to get around August.

Her attempt would be met with his hand on her shoulder and then came the kung-fu. Clara Lighthawk would show August that she was not someone to be taken lightly. Again and again she came at him with a different approach to break his stance but with his vampire speed and her lacking in weapons, she really couldn't do much. After he knocked her down for the dozenth time he'd start demanding answers out of her.

Wiping her blood from her lip from where he'd given her a good jab she'd reply to him with cold eyes, "It's the twenty first century, blood sucker. Get with the times. Downworlders have been helping us fight demons more and more. They'll never be welcome in Idris, but they have proven valuable allies here on the streets."

Clara would now stand, denying any help from him, and go over to the sink and begin washing herself off. He'd then pry a little further and ask her why she cared for him so much. Turning off the faucet Clara shook her hands defeated into the bowl. "He's my boyfriend, alright? I love him. And I don't need you telling me to stay away from him I get enough of that on my own at home." Then, just a little quieter she'd add, "My destiny is already spoken for..."

He cleaned himself off. As good a try as she gave to get past him, he didn't even move an inch. He stood back and listened to her speak. He comment about vampires and werewolves didn't go down so smoothly. "Yeah well consider me old-fashioned. Trust me, you don't want to know what werewolf venom does to a vampire. And if you know, you don't want to go through it." he fired back irritably. He had lost his fair share of friends to werewolves and even had his own close calls. How he hadn't been bitten yet was a miracle. A miracle he was very thankful for since as far as he knew no cure had been developed yet.

She went on to explain what he was to her. August's suspicions were correct. He raised an eyebrow as he listened further, tempted to tease her over a holier-than-thou wannabe angel sleeping with a filthy mutt from a circle of hell not much farther than vampires. But the last part made him rethink his choice of words. "What do you mean 'already spoken for'? Are you supposed to be in an arranged marriage?" he scoffed at the idea. "And you want to tell me to get with the times." he muttered as he leaned against the nose of his Plymouth. Of course there was a chance he was misunderstanding but given that the term was all over in the medieval ages that was the first thing he thought of.
