    A plot is a story comprised of a series of threads that gets a character and its supporters to a specific goal. The goal can range from something small (buying a warehouse) to something large (overthrowing the existing Sith Leader). The thing that sets plots apart from regular threads is that at the completion of the plots, staff will review the threads and grant reward XP as warranted. Rewards will always vary plot by plot, so no two stories will have the same results.

    The concept of the plot is being introduced to encourage people to submit stories for their characters that have goals and would like to grow as individuals. Complex plots where a character wants to take over a faction or have extensive fame will require other PCs to be involved in the plots so the ascension is realistic. The character will not rise without the aid of actual support. While members can RP just fine without ever submitting a plot, rising through the ranks in the Main Factions will have plot requirements to show that the member can lead stories and truly make an impact in the faction with supporters who’ll back them.

    Remember - it is not mandatory to do a plot! Plots are just a great way to have a bigger impact in the story. If you want to simply do low key threads that don’t tie into the Main Factions or overarching story, you can keep doing regular threads and gaining the credits for them. Plots will be mandatory if you want to impact the story or if you want your character to be important in the overall galaxy and interact with high level NPCs.

    You can get to level 4 solely by RPing on your own and never submitting a plot. However, you will not be able to obtain official ranks or be widely recognized in the story. For example, if you’re a level 4 bounty hunter that has never done a plot, you will be known, but you likely won’t have any impacts at all on the overall story.

    Once again, it’s not necessary to submit a plot. However, plots are generally different than regular roleplay threads because they must have a clear objective. It could be to defeat someone in power, to take over something, to establish something. Your plot submission will include your objective and what you’ll do to get to it.

    Interactions with important NPCs controlled by staff will always need a plot submission as no character will willy nilly be able to bump into them. Rising through the ranks will also involve plots to show that the member can take on leadership roles and successfully drive a story.

    Personal social threads, though very great for character growth, don’t necessarily need to be submitted for plots. Plots are mainly to allow characters to make a difference in site canon and story.

    An important thing to note - If there are successive threads done as part of a story and it ends with an objective, members are free to retroactively submit these as part of a plot. If they can show that there was a clear beginning to end with reaching an objective, staff will review the threads and award credits if warranted.

    Before you start a plot, you need to fill out a submission here. You may not begin your plot until you have the green light to start. This is to ensure that no plots get too far along and need to be restarted.

    When your plot is completed, you will need to submit the plot for evaluation by staff. You can submit all plots here. Please be sure to include links to all threads in the plot, a summary of the events of the plot, and a list of all characters involved (supporters and opposition), with links. Remember, all threads need to be completed in order for them to count. Completion is marked by a clear conclusion at the end of the thread.

    After submission, staff members will review your plot and compare it to the goals you’ve submitted. Once it’s determined that the threads are completed, relevant and complete the goal, the credit amount will be added to your character account (and to the accounts of those that participated with you).

    As mentioned above, retroactive submissions are allowed if you believe you’ve had a series of threads leading to an objective.

    Since we will be reviewing all plot outline submissions, we will let you know how your plot can weave in an NPC and whether your idea works.

    Some plots will have required NPCs for opposition. For example, if you’re plotting to become an Exile Lord, chances are you’ll have PVP scenarios to fight through. If there is another player pursuing the same goal, we will notify them and they will have an opportunity to interject into your plot. Plots around rise to power or gaining influence will need some measure of challenge and staff will help work with you on how that might look.

    Remember - the more ambitious the goal, the more risks might be involved. The plot might not go your way. If you’re planning to assassinate an NPC, they might have ways to thwart your plans organically. Your end goal in this case is not guaranteed. This is why each plot will be reviewed case by case. If your plot is deemed to warrant an interjection from opposition, you will be notified of this before your plot starts. It is your responsibility to notify staff when you reach the point in your plot where you were told an NPC would interject. If you do not do so and your plot was flagged for NPC intrusion, you will not get credit for your plot.

    If your plot does not go according to plan or doesn’t work out, then you will still get bonus credits for finishing the plot. You are always feel free to try the plot again but with a different angle. Someone that supported you is also free to start a similar plot. However, being in the party for the failed plot won’t give anyone a leg up. They’d have to start their plot submission process from the beginning and come up with an original idea.

    Plots have no direct impact on levels. To elaborate, someone can get to max level without ever doing a plot. Submitting plots will yield extra credits which will allow quicker level gains.

    Plots do impact ranks directly. In order to rank up in main factions, the character will have successfully led and completed plots. For the rank of Master or Vigo, for example, a character need only reach level 2 to obtain it. From then on, players will have to submit a plot idea for each successive rank. For example, a member can submit an overarching plot arc to get them from Master rank to Jedi Councilor or Vigo to Lorda. Staff will evaluate the entire plot at its completion and then it will be determined whether that rank is granted or not. This will be entirely case by case basis and dependant entirely on how much effort is put into the plots. Someone that has a strong PC support system and an extensive story will be on the path to becoming a Main Faction Leader much quicker than someone doing the bare minimum.

    A PC will have to be a minimum of level 4 before they can be eligible to be a Main Faction Leader. Once they hit level 4, they may petition to staff to step up to the Faction Leader position. If staff looks at the entire plot arc done thus far and deems it sufficient, they will be granted the position. If not, additional plots may be necessary. For Exiles, although a level 3 can challenge an Exile Lord for their rank, for the Faction Leader position, no outright challenge will suffice. There will need to be a plot around it that realistically leads to the ascension.

    Anyone that hasn’t been ranking up throughout the faction internally will not be eligible to go for Faction Leader positions. The only exception is for Exiles vying for a Warlord position. In this case, any level 3 Exile may challenge an Exile Warlord to a single combatant duel for their position and title. In order to ascend to Faction Leader, the Exile must not only be a level 4 Exile Lord but also have gained a power base of support before ascending.

    Remember - YOU need to petition for rank promotions. No staff member will come to you and tell you you’re ready for a promotion. A PC’s ranking is entirely dependent on the player driving and tracking its progress.

    This section is to remind everyone that plot admins and mods will be working hard to review your submissions or grant rewards. As a result, please be courteous of their time and don’t badger them if you don’t hear back on things immediately. If you repeatedly harass our staff, your plot will be instantly scrapped and further disciplinary actions might be taken.

    This second point is especially important - No staff member will be telling you what to do for your plot. You present the plot to staff, and you get feedback on how it can be done. However, don’t ever go to staff member asking them for ideas on what to do because it’s not their job. Plots are dependent solely on the players to apply their creative thinking and there will be no handholding for this. If you’re unsure on what plots to do, look to other members that are successfully driving plots.

    A main faction plot is a main faction's current story, to be told by the players. These are not a charted and pre-planned storyline presented to the site by the administration, but rather a plotline that the players will chart and progress. Main Faction plots will be presented as an overall goal or mission statement that the faction has at the time, the completion of which will progress the factions storyline. After a Main Faction plot goal is completed, the story will progress and a new goal will be presented.

    Contributing to Main Faction plots is an easy task that anybody who has a character in the faction can do. Grab a fellow faction member and do a thread, or plan and submit a plot that contributes to the overall goal of the main faction. Once a main faction plot thread is completed, it can be submitted for review. Threads will be worth points, the number depending on what type of thread it was (ASK, OPEN, PvP), which will contribute to reaching the factions plot. Organized plots will contribute bonus points, rewarding the extra effort and planning. A player could even indirectly contribute by participating in main faction plot threads as an outsider to the faction, or NPCing for the Main Faction plot.

    Influencing Main Faction Plots

    While the goal of the faction plot is set, the journey to and the actual outcome will be entirely dependent on the actions of player characters. From individual threads to extensive plots, the player base of the faction will build the story to reach these goals. Extensive plots will have the more influence upon the outcome than individual threads, as they present a more sequential and coherent story towards the overall goal. This is not to say that individual threads can’t have an influence.

    Through hard work and determination anything is possible. As with influencing the outcome of the faction plot, player actions will be taken into account for the next faction plot. While it's not guaranteed that your plot will influence the path of the faction, the more compelling, coherent, and challenging of a story that is presented, the greater influence a plot can have on the factions story.


    Can a faction “fail” its Main Faction Plot?

    We certainly hope not. However if a faction is inactive, or extremely disorganized in its pursuit of the goal, it is possible for the faction plot be deemed a failure. As normal, once the faction plot is completed either successfully or not, a new faction plot will be presented. However the faction will be in less advantageous of a position due to its recent failings, and this could be reflected in the faction plot.


    Example of a Main Faction Plot

    Word has come down the grapevine that General Skywalker needs power converters. Some rumors even say that he needs a lot of power converters. The highly motivated and well trained soldiers of the Rebel Alliance take it upon themselves to retrieve these power converters for the Jedi Master.


    • (Random Thread 1) A pair of soldiers go to the nearest refueling stop and buy a dozen power converters, enough to feel like they are contributing to the cause, but not break the bank.

    • (Plot 1) A crack team of rebel commandos devise a plan to infiltrate an Imperial outpost, steal every power converter in the place and then blow it sky high. While carrying out this plot they are opposed by an elite counter insurgency stormtrooper unit and are only able to make off with half of the stations power converters.

    • (Plot 2) A rebel logistics officer schemes with a pair of smugglers to sneak past enemy lines to retrieve a shipment of power converters stolen from the Empire by the Exchange. Unfortunately the Exchange double crosses the group and they are captured by Imperial forces. With some outside help they manage to escape prison and return to the Rebel Alliance, but without any power converters.

    • (Outcome) Luke Skywalker only really needed one power converter, which he picked up at Toshi Station already. But coincidentally an Imperial infiltrator had sabotaged all the power converters in an artillery units vehicles, so the power converters ended up being much need.

    Battles will still exist in the The First Sith, though they hopefully won’t be a rigid and systemic grind as they became in the Dawn of the Republic Timeline. Battles will instead be dropped organically into the story, especially in areas where opposing factions are both engaged in competing plots. Player made plots can even be designed in a way to trigger a battle, such as a plot to attack opposing factions, or two factions.

    SELF-DM OPPOSITION

    Self-DMing is making a comeback!

    A thread that is self-DMed is simply a thread where any and all NPC interactions and combat and the like is entirely decided by yourself and your thread partner. It is a chance to be spontaneous or follow a plan you've both got in mind but the primary reason for self-DMing is to tell a story.

    You have full freedom to make it as challenging or as easy as you like and you can better steer your characters - because of this, this style suits Character Plots very well and you'll find in the future that character plots that focus purely on developing the character will likely not need either Dice or DM.

    Faction plots can have elements of self-DMing in as well but be aware that rewards will still require appropriate risk - you could not, for example, conquer a planet for your faction through self-DMing.

    Use your own judgement but be aware than upon completion your threads will be analysed and judged by the plot team and we can take action based on this including:

    Invalidating a thread's contribution to the plot (meaning you need to do a new thread to meet your plot objectives or risk failing the overall plot goal)
    Removing IC rewards taken during the thread
    Removing IC rewards from the completed plot​


    DICE OPPOSITION

    Dice rolling will be becoming more challenging and you will begin to see it adding far more to a plot with less use in the plot as a whole. With the re-emergence of Self-DMed plot threads, Dice roll threads will no longer be 'bottom rung' when it comes to challenge in a thread, instead they will be a marked step up from Self-DMed threads but not as challenging, for the most part, as DMed threads.

    For Dice, we are introducing a standard table for rolling for how effective your actions are. Roll a d100 dice and apply to the scale below:

    100: Critical success.
    81-99: Rousing success. Everything goes better than expected
    51-80: Success. Everything goes as planned
    26-50: Barely a success. You succeed in your end goal but take some sort of negative in doing so
    11-25: Mild fail, fail with some minor consequence
    2-10: Major fail, fail with more serious consequence
    1: Critical fail.​

    Note that a natural 1 is "critical fail", not necessarily instant mission failure - a natural 1 should be something that makes the rest of the thread harder but it depends on the attempted action exactly how much by.

    Likewise, rolling a natural 100 is not instant mission success - depending on what it was rolled for, this can give bonuses to other rolls or, at the judgement of the Plot team, include a surprise bonus reward from that thread.

    Good rolls can counter bad rolls - if you roll a low number, it is entirely possible for your team mates to roll to mitigate the effects of said roll.

    You are not expected to roll a d100 to determine how many enemies are in your thread or the like - for those kinds of rolls, a lower numbered dice remains perfectly fine.

    All plot completion threads will be required to have links to dice roll threads used for the plot - failure to do so will mean that the plot will not be considered completed until the links are supplied.

    Use your own judgement but be aware that upon completion your dice rolls will be judged by the plot team and we can take action based on this, including:

    Invalidating a thread's contribution to the plot (meaning you need to do a new thread to meet your plot objectives or risk failing the overall plot goal)
    Removing IC rewards taken during the thread
    Removing IC rewards from the completed plot​


    DM OPPOSITION

    There is going to be a shake up in how DM threads are run from now on - simply put, the plot team has noticed that some DMs merely roll over for the players and this will no longer be acceptable.

    If you are trying to convince someone to do something, you are going to actually need to come up with a compelling argument, do your research on your opposition and tailor your approach.

    For example, if you approach House Organa as a Mandalorian and promise them conquest and glory on the battlefield to side with you? Expect a door slammed in your face and a mission failure. But if you approach the Nightsisters of Dathomir as a member of the Old Empire and promise to give them access to certain Dark Side artefacts for their assistance? Prepare to find them more agreeable, if not any less cunning than before.

    If you are in DMed combat it will be treated as a true PVP - just as you are attempting to kill the target, the target and their defenders will be trying to kill you. There will be no punches pulled because the whole point of DMed combat opposition is to be closer to fighting another player than to using Dice.

    Advice for players: Prepare yourselves before you enter into one of these threads and be prepared to work hard. Failure is possible but because it is possible, victory means so much more.

    Advice for DMs: Remember to stay true to the characters you are in control of - people stick to their principles unless given compelling reasons not to and people under attack don't hold back when it is clear people are trying to kill them.

    As DMed threads are becoming harder, they will be used more sparingly than Dice threads going forward but, as such, the rewards for completing a plot with DMed opposition can be higher.

    DMs themselves CANNOT be a member of the same faction or allied to the faction that the plot benefits - this is to prevent a conflict of interest OOC where the DM wants the players to succeed so goes easier on them. This means that DMs will need to be one of the following:

    A staff member
    A player for an opposing faction
    A player for a neutral faction​

    DMed threads will be heavily scrutinized by the plot team upon completion and members taking part in the thread can flag concerns during the thread itself by reporting the post in question. This is to look for both DMs making it too easy and for DMs making it too hard - the idea is to present a high level of challenge, not block your opposing factions with DM powers.


    OPEN PVP OPPOSITION

    As always, Open PVP remains the highest level of risk that can be used for a plot thread. There are very few changes to Open PVP plot threads but to confirm again some hard rules:

    Attacks arranged against another faction directly REQUIRE Open PVP
    Espionage plot threads are REQUIRED to be Open PVP threads.​

    One change that is coming into effect however is that if no one joins the Open PVP thread then the players may start using dice - remember if you are attacking another faction that resistance doesn't just disappear because no players join to oppose you, only that it becomes less risky for yourselves.

    You are clear to start using dice once you have gone 72 hours from the thread start time and date without opposition appearing - at which point you may change the thread to ASK (though the player may elect to leave it Open/PvP without dice if they so choose). It is expected that before closing the thread, the purpose of the thread will be clear (with no massive alterations to the purpose/type of thread after closing), all planned participants will have posted, and between 5-10 posts of normal RP will have taken place.

    PLOT GUIDELINES & FAQ

    Q: Can I do single thread plots?
    A: Yes, but only in the case of character or tech plots, so long as the tech in question requires only one thread to acquire. Appropriate opposition may be required.

    Q: Can Level 1 members of a faction lead a mission pack?
    A: Yes, through approval by the faction leader during submission review.

    Q: When attacking a faction, must all threads be Open PvP?
    A: No, but a majority do need to allow for adequate opposition to your attack.

    Q: How many threads does it take to acquire advanced tech?
    A: Most tech submissions list how many threads are needed. If not, we can review it all the same.

    Q: Can we use dice other than d100?
    A: Yes, we suggest other dice for rolls such as establishing enemy numbers. While D100 for rolling the effectiveness of your actions is not mandatory, it is recommended. An easy-to-use table for your convenience and our own is also provided.

    Q: Can I self-DM for advanced tech?
    A: Context needed. While we will not force you to dice roll or seek out a DM, more threads and effort may be required for self-DM’ing tech. Depending on the tech, this is subject to change.

    Q: Do I need to submit a lore write-up before I submit a plot?
    A: If you plan to acquire a base of operations, create an organization or discover ancient tradition through a plot, a write-up will be needed before the plot can be approved. That way, we can better understand what you’re planning to get and whether the threads or opposition involved is either too little or too much.

    Q: How many threads might it take to acquire a planet?
    A: Context is needed. This depends on your approach, support from your faction, the planet in question and the opposition it may retain.

    Q: Can I submit a plot retroactively?
    A: Yes, and these are particularly good for story plots, but keep in mind that the higher reward you aim for, the more chances that your retroactive plot will be subject to denial. If you are uncertain, play it safe and submit the plot ahead of time.

    Q: Can I submit a plot that has failed or is incomplete?
    A: Yes, successful plots aren't the only plots that can be submitted. Just because a story goal has failed doesn't mean the story hasn't happened. You will be rewarded credits for the threads you have completed, but will not receive a completed plot bonus.

    Q: Do I need to list what form of opposition I want for each thread?
    A: Please. You would be surprised how often we must ask.
