Ooon Species_Ooon Designation_Sentient Classification_Mammalian Primate Diet_Omnivorous Lifespan_90 Galactic Standard Years Height_1.61 Meters Worlds_Bion-62 The Ooon are an enslaved species hailing from the planet Bion-62, oppressed by the Sodality of Fire. They have been stripped of their rights, their voice, and their culture - they are known to be intelligent, yet primitive in their ways. Contents Biology Breeding Strengths Weaknesses Diet Behavior & Temperament Communication History Intent Biology The Ooon are a sentient arboreal mammalian species belonging to the primate family, believed to be desendants of Homosapiens. They are gracile bipedal humanoids with a similar anatomy to that of Humans. They have a thin layer of velvet soft fur that shields them from the elements, with a long slender prehensile tail designed for improved balance. Greater bone density for improved durability, as well as most their muscle mass within their legs (particularly their thighs). With pointed ears adapted to hear surrouding noises within a farther radius with increased volume. The physiology of the Ooon differs from humans they are flexible able to contort their bodies with ease - able to twist their bodies at awkward angles which most species would need the training of a contortionist to achieve. They have penhensile tails, their use of their tails are as natural to them as breathing; their tails are strong enough to let them hang in place hands-free. Their tail helps to keep their balance while climbing, or useful as an extra hand - some are even able to use their tails in combat situations with proper training. The Ooon average out at a height of 5'3" (161cm), with an average weight of 130lbs (58.9kg), the average body temperature is 40 degrees celsius, or 104 degrees fahrenheit, with the average lifespan of a healthy Ooon being 90 years. The Ooon's skin colourations differ, ranging from the hue of a roasted chestnut brown to the hue of a soft peach colouration - with their fine fur being the same colouration as their skin, but some rare cases have shown to exhibit darker fur to even a midnight black, the fur acts as an natural camflague to help protect against their natural predators. Their eye colour ranges from Steel Grey, to a Ice Blue, to a mesmerizing hue of Pink. Breeding The Ooon are an eukaryotic species with their somatic cells having two sets of 23 chromosomes, where each set is recieved from one parent. Also, like humans, these cells contain 22 autosomes, and one pair of sex chromosomes, which makes them capable of breeding with humans and near-humans. They reproduce with internal fertilization via sexual intercourse, in which the female would be impregnated for 11 months, giving birth to an infant, and fed from their mammary glands. While Males of the Ooon reach sexual maturity at age 25, the females reach sexual maturity at age 18, since childbirth is dangerous for the Ooon, most times each female will only give birth to one offspring, succumbing to blood loss. Having a child with a human or near-human has dire consequences, the DNA and RNA of the Ooon isn't as compatible with other species as one would think due to the similarities in appearance and anatomy to humanoids. Although there are able to conceive the offspring, the chances of a successful childbirth are slim to none, most cases result in the child being stillborn - as well as the female passing away due to blood loss. Strengths People of the Ooon tribe are known to have spectacular muscle strength in their legs, their powerful leg muscles allied with skeletal compression allows the Ooon to push an excessive four times their body weight, but they are only able to lift about two thirds (2/3) their body weight at most, with trained Ooon able to lift 1.5x their body weight. They are able to produce powerful kicks, should one of these kicks ever connect it could easily incapacitate a foe, they are able to easily jump reaching a vertical height 1.5x their body length, pushing themselves they could leap 5x their body length with the right trajectory. Ooon have a significantly stronger bone density than most other humanoid species, allowing them to drop from high distances, and respond better to blunt force trauma (albeit blunt force trauma over a large surface area of their body). Their bones are able to withstand great deals of pressure before reaching their fracture point. The Ooon are known throughout the galaxy to have incredible dexterity, agility and flexibility, they are excellent climbers - using their powerful legs to push themselves upwards while using their hands and tail to steer. Great hand-to-hand combatants, as well as their aim being credited as "true" by many other races. The Ooon are able to contort their bodies similar to a cat, with the dexterity of a monkey, they are able to pull off feats such as twisting themselves mid-air to another position, and scaling walls, they are sure-footed, and never miss a step (altough they are known to fall from time to time). Weaknesses The Ooon have poor upper body strength as most of their muscle mass resides within their legs, this makes their entire torso a weak region. Their torso is susceptible to most forms of offense, their dense bones protect only against blunt force trauma, as their flesh is easily lacerated by sharp objects as their muscles are not able to withstand the piercing force of the object. The tail of an Ooon is known to be one of their greatest strengths but also one of their greatest weaknesses, the tail is designed for balance and agility with developed fur sensative to the touch - with even the wind being enough to stifle a giggle or two from them. It is well-known that if you grasp onto their tail they will become incapacitated, some treasure the sensation when their tails are grasped, as others morbidly hate the sensation. Another known fact is that they have an unnatural phobia of water when its above their waste - their bones are too dense for the water they are unable to swim in water above their head. When in water over their head they begin to sink, resulting in their shared phobia. When in water over their head they panic resulting in more oxygen use in their blood stream speeding up the process of drowning. Ooon are known to fall from great heights and survive (up to 10 meters unscathed), their tremendous ability to deal with blunt force trauma is truly a sight to behold, but this does not mean they are not susceptible to a foe's attacks dealing with blunt force - but it is their true weakness. The fur of an Ooon developed a sensativity so great that if someone applied a large amount of pressure over a small area on their body (i.e a shove, slap, punch) it would cause intense pain. For them it is similar in sensation to getting a first degree burn to the sensation of recieving a second degree burn; these sensations could last up to 30 seconds depending on how much force was applied. Diet The Ooon are an omnivorous species, but they mainly lean towards a hearty diet of vegetables and fruit. Most animals on their homeworld are carnivores, thus their meat does not merit much caloric value, but they do need to eat animal meat in order to get the minerals they need. Most of their nourishment comes from fruits that they eat, which makes them primarily gatherers. Behavior & Temperament Observant, playful, reserved, and intelligent are the defining traits of the Ooon. Although the Ooon did not achieve space travel, or was anywhere close to modern civilization, they were considered to be unwaveringly intelligent. Most animals learn (even humans) through a means of trial-and-error, the Ooon have special cognizant abilities that give them a certain insight in which they are able to move past the trial-and-error mishaps and lead straight into a solution rather than wasting time with attempting to find ways past obstacles, the Ooon were known to find a solution to any problem almost immediately, which in turn begged the question: "Why were they not capable of interstellar travel?" The Ooon are known to be quite timid at first glance, but like their primate cousins merit a short fuse in which they explode constantly, even small disputes could turn to full-scale assault. Their irritability has ties to their powerful brain, in which they do not spend much time on problems, if someone disputes with them, it causes them to try and find a solution, when there is no solution to the problem, they become agitated and violent. Although the Ooon are known to become violent, most are unable to actually kill any other sentient race, with most finding it unbearable to kill the animals they hunt for nourishment. The body language of the Ooon people usually lie with their tails. If you were to study a Ooon, you'd be able to pick out how they're feeling by their tail, when happy the tail perks up. When sad the tail looks like it is drooping, when frightened their tail begins to flick around wildly. A great way to flatter a Ooon is to talk about how great their tail is, how beautiful it is, and how soft it is. The Ooon are extremely family-orientated, they would do anything to protect their family and those whom were adopted into the tribe. The Ooon are known to adopt any orphaned children they may see, since most of the women whom birth usually do not survive the process, due to lack of healthcare and bloodloss - they are known to care for the children up to at least age 13. The Elders of the tribe are treated with great respect, their word held high, as they hold great sway over any decision, with usually the last say in any dispute. The decisions made by the Ooon are made together, with even the children having some say in minute matters. Communication As their name suggests the Ooon's native language consists mostly of O, N, G and A sounds. In which they call their native tongue "Ooonoona." When they communicate their conversations are known to be long, dramatic and played out - most Ooon have a flare for the dramatic, making for good actors. Ooon are extremely vocal with their distastes with them voicing their opinions freely. The body language of the Ooon is often more dramatic than not, they are known to use their hand and tails when gesturing in conversation, they often use their tails to show how they are feeling. Culture "In the beginning there was darkness, and only darkness. The Ooon had no light to see, to hunt, nor did the animals. The Ooon were starving, the animals were blind, everything was in eternal darkness. So the Ooon asked the spiritual leader or shaman (which translates to ᐊᖓᑯᐃᑦ) to ask the sky for light, so the Shaman did. The Sky told the Shaman that if they wanted light, when an Ooon dies, their soul would go to the sky which would give them light. The Shaman agreed, and this is how the stars came to be. The Ooon were still not happy, they asked the Shaman if they could ask the Sky for even more light, the Shaman agreed and went to ask the Sky for more light. The Sky said yes, only if the Shaman gave up their voice to the Sky, the Shaman agreed and that is how the weather, and elements came to be. Yet it was still to dark to hunt, so the Shaman went back and asked the Sky to make them a star next to them to see, the Sky agreed but told the Shaman he must give his life for the Star, the Shaman agreed. His spirit rose from his body in a giant disc of light, which rose to the sky to become the Sun." -Excerpt from the Story of Creation. The Ooon believe that everything is interconnected from a butterfly flapping its wings and creating a storm on the other side of the world, to a droplet of water hitting the ocean to cause a tsunami rising from the deep, it is all connected. They believe that everything happens for a reason, and whatever happens was meant to. They believe that their fate is carried amoungst the stars, where their ancestors look down upon them and protect them. No one person is truly evil, they believe that people only lose their way on the path of righteousness, believing that any could come back to the Light from the Darkness. The Ooon have a respect for all life, agreeing that all life is sacred and must be cherished. The Animals they hunt are highly respected in their culture, even going as far as to have Festivals to please the spirit's of game hunted earlier that year. Animals are important to the Ooon because they rely solely on animals to get everything from clothing, to food, to shelter, to everyday use items. They believe that the animals willingly give themselves to the hunter, which they need the festivals and offerings to please their spirits in the afterlife, as well as to give something back to the earth for providing for them. The Force to the Sister Tribes is an interconnected balance between all living and non-living things, the delicate balance between evil and good, between life and death. Everything is connected in some way, shape or form. Those who have Force Sensativity within the Sister Tribes are referred to Healers of Hope, and are trained in the ways to use Light-Sided abilities, such as Force Heal. They believe that using the Force for evil intent is taboo, and those who shall use the Force for evil will be smited by the Exalted One. The Elder Healers act as advisors for the Sister Tribes, as well was it their duty to train force-sensatives, bestowing the knowledge of the Balance generation after generation. After the enslavement of the Ooon, they lost a major part of their culture. They were unable to pursue their teachings, unable to speak their native tongue, unable to see their families, as well as the Healers of Hope being seized by the Kinsmen, as well as all force-sensatives, which made the Ooon lose their way of teaching Balance. Forced to take on the Religion of the Sodality, they now come together to congregate, clutching onto the Old Ways for as long as they can, knowing that one day the Balance will correct itself, freeing them of their bondage, and hopefully one day allow them to revert back to their ways. History The Ooon once lived a simple way of life - hunt animals for shelter, clothing and food; respect the planet, it will respect you. A tribalistic people rooted deep in their ways, there was no conflict amoungst the Sister Tribes everything was at peace, the tribes intermingled loosely as one. They have lived this way for centuries, even milenia. They say that peaceful times cannot stay the same forever which sadly was the case, their homeworld was invaded by the Sodality of Fire - a faction of Humans that recently lost their homeworld to an asteroid, who travelled across the galaxy in search of a new planet to inhabit. The Kinsmen of the Sodality established the first governing body of Bion-62, proclaiming the planet as their own as well as laying claim to all the resources, land and animals. As the Kinsmen began to start their mining operations, the quaking earth and burning of fuels attracted the Sister Tribes, in which the Ooon had their first encounter with the Kinsmen. They were appauled by the fact that they were boring holes into the very earth itself, extracting her lifeblood - taboo. The outraged Sister Tribes voiced their opinions to the Kinsmen but since there was a language barrier they were unable to communicate properly - the Kinsmen seized this oppurtunity to install a trust between the people by gifting the Ooon technology they never seen before. The Ooon were entraced by the tech they were gifted, and began to trade clothes, meats, fruits and rare gemstones found in their sacred caves for technology. At first the trades were fair with the Kinsmen, they recived games, building materials, blasters, articles of clothing for meats, fruits and gemstones. After a time of fair trade, the gluttony of the Kinsmen bared its fangs. They began to give less and less, asking for more in return, with the kindhearted nature of the Ooon, they trusted the Kinsmen in thinking that they were getting a fair price for their hard work. This was the change that would start it all. The Ooon began to trust too blindly, allowing the Kinsmen to reach their villages, allowing them to see where the other Sister Tribe villages were, and one by one the Kinsmen began to capture villages, capturing all those within the villages and sending them to work in the mines, with the more disobident ones being killed off. The children were put into Kinsmen schooling, forced to give up their native tongue, their teachings, and their rights as a species. After this the Ooon were divided some as slaves whilst others free. The Kinsmen got the moniker "Slavers" from the Sister Tribes. The Kinsmen forced them to do unspeakable things, build cities, work in the Mines which was a death sentence for those who were sent there - stripped of their families, their culture, of their native tongue to a degree so extreme that even uttering a word in your native tongue was enough to merit a punishment, usually getting a strap on the wrists, slapped or punched, sometimes even being tortured to the point of going into a coma. The Kinsmen forced them to take up the Sodality's religion. Now they are treated as sub-humans with only some being able to escape captivity and their lives of opression. Most are forced into slavery with their entire lives laid out for them, a once proud species turned to a shadow of its former self. Intent My intent that I have for this species Role-Play wise is to see what people would do with a member of this species, I am creating a player-character that will be an Ooon. I wanted to create a new species because I wanted to give my own insight on what I personally would think I would find in the Star Wars canon universe. I also want to see how people would play these playful and intelligent creatures.
