Jedi ship rule

Yoda loved each and every Jedi he ever taught. Does that mean he contradicted his own teachings? No. because the code is trying to put forth the idea that emotion should not control a person's decision. To cast away all emotion is to become an uncaring apathetic shell. The Jedi just realize their emotions and feelings for what they are, but don't use them to fuel anger, revenge, aggression. It's impossible to completely disregard emotion.

 

A parent's love for a child isn't as strong as that for a man and a woman? Dude, the Jedi discouraged love of all kinds. This was because most people just couldn't handle it, because most Jedi Knights, and even some masters could not yet control themselves, and fell to these temptations. A true Jedi on the other hand, can. That's the difference.

It's the same for possession. Jedi are discouraged from it, but they won't be kicked from the Order unless other members feel it is interfering with their ability to stay detached when making important decisions.

 

Dooku as a Jedi still had access to his vast inheritance and responsibilities from being Count of Serenno. Was he kicked from the Order for that? Considering he left of his own accord, i'd be inclined to disagree, and that was in the Pre-Clone Wars era, where the Jedi were far more restrictive.

In this era, however, the Jedi are considerably more flexible. Individual starfighters to suit individual styles would improve survival rate anyway, and considering the situation the Jedi are in, i'd be inclined to say IC the Council would be for such a move in such times of war.

If you ask me, why does it matter if it's Order property or a personal ship? The ship only gets us from point A to B. We don't need alot of fancy gadgets on it....just some weapons, sensors, etc...general stuff for a starfighter. Flashy ships would draw attention to the Jedi, which kinda goes against all that I see a Jedi doing, especially with the Sith in control of so much right now.

 

Ah well, the rest of my argument still stands. Jedi in the post-kotor era are a lot less cloesly tied together, so it would make sense that they would have their own personal acquisitions. I think the whole 'vow of poverty' thing is more a guide to say, 'don't ******* try to rule the galaxy, bitches', anyway.

What Jedi in the KOTOR era had their own ship? Seriously. Revan doesn't count since he/she turned Sith Dark Lord before we saw him/her.

Anyway, in a serious war (like the Mandalorian War), personal fighters would have been put aside so the Jedi could be more clearly recognized on the battlefield as Republic fighters, hence the use of Aurek fighters. This would have been revived for the Battle of Rakata Prime, i'd imagine, for the same reasons. However, in small missions or travel, a Jedi using a vessel of choice is not so far-fetched. It is like how a Jedi's lightsaber needs to reflect their own fighting style and personality, I suppose - in a universe where you spend a huge amount of time in a ship, one that you are comfortable using would be quite beneficial compared to a mass produced fighter. Also remember that many Jedi in the Cloen Wars customized their fighters to suit their personality - it was frowned upon, but it was done.

Even if we disagree to this rule, can we get rid of Jedi using Actis Interceptors? I mean, at least use Aurek fighters, sheesh.

 

I say we just use Public transports to get to the more known planets, like tatoonie. For the less known planets, that's when you go get a starfighter from the Republic or something...like Yavin IV. I mean...how else did Obi-Wan get that ship to go to Kamino in Episode II? He either had the Jedi give it to him somehow or he "rented" from the Republic.

 

Delta-7s were standard issue Jedi equipment, like the Aurek fighters of the kotor timeline

though in kotor the Republic used them for their military as well...

 

Um, a lot? And Revan does indeed actually count. Why would he/she be allowed a ship, when he/she wasn't even aware that he/she was once Darth Revan. The Jedi wouldn't be all like "Well... we're trying to pretend we're bringing him/her into the Order as a fresh student, but we'll give him/her a few perks, such as his/her own ship, even though he/she would wonder why it's allowed, because we taught him/her the Jedi Code....."

It really wasn't uncommon to have your own ship as a Jedi. Imagine being on your own, to some far off planet. Now imagine sitting there all like "Damn, how do I get off this planet, without hijacking some innocents ship? I could sneak aboard Public Transport, but then that takes forever!" (here's the answer to the "but I had a Jedi Transport to start, so I can still use that) "Damnit! I've been reassigned to this planet! And my Jedi Transport was stolen! DARN! Oh boy, if only I could buy another ship, with the zero credits that I have, because I took that gay 'vow of poverty'. Gosh darnit."

 

Well, this is fun and all, but we need to make some decisions about this, this, and...well, this. Can't do anything about squat without a decision, yo.

I don't mean to be rude or anything, but you're kinda going a little nuts, expecting us to make all these changes in the blink of an eye. The first one of those links, is obviously being taken care of, seeing as Katroti kinda has a poll going, and is going to appoint someone else to take her place.

Second one is related to the first, and I've already made the suggestion that you guys should just start telling me what you want fixed, and I'll ******* do it. I keep telling you guys to do shit and type something up for me to replace it with (such as the Jedi Roster) but you guys just ******* ignore me.

And as for this specific thread, I would say that as a council (excluding Bac, no offence, but you're not on the council) we've sort of established that we can have our own individual ships. It's an arbitrary thing, and easily rectified.



If you want shit done, PM or notify the only ADMIN on the council, with specifics! And I'll fix and/or replace and delete things for you.

 

I think we should allow them the right of possession, but I still think Love should be frowned upon severly. It puts the Jedi at a slight disadvantage to have no possessions. Houses and such would be out of the question, as all Jedi would reside within the enclaves and temples.
