Life can be tough on the “Smugglers Moon” of Nar Shaddaa. A young person can get itself into trouble rather quickly if they are not careful or even if they are. The Hutts rule the world completely and there is not much on the planet that escapes their notice or that is not on their orders. Even on Nar Shaddaa there are rules that must be followed, protocols that keep the economy and life on the moon, running smoothly. The Hutt’s have one main rule on the moon, “Don’t cross the Hutts.”

The Hutts that run the moon have complete control of the government. That includes the officials, the police, even the more humane emergency services such as fire and ambulance. With the touch of a button and a few quick words, they can have someone arrested or delay a fire droid teams’ response to allow a business late on its payments to burn to ash. That is not to say that there are events that happen on Nar Shaddaa that are beneath their notice, there certainly are.

A father’s love for his son is not something that should be taken lightly. Fathers have been known to exhibit super strength in saving the lives of their sons. There are those that say these reports, such as father’s lifting cars off dying sons, are just exaggerations and can be easily explained. On the other side, to many the explanation is simple, it’s simply a father’s love.

The bond between father and son is a multi-species bond. It is not exclusive to human alone. At times male children will be what they are, both male and a child. They will make mistakes and that is when a father will try to step in and help his son. No matter the cost, no matter the lengths, a father will always try to help his son.

Raubeek is a trandoshan, who wishes to downsize his repair shop as he is getting older and works less. The shop is a large one, able to service light freighters and the trandoshan simply doesn't need a shop that large anymore. He would like to downsize to a smaller shop where he might tinker in his old age and not have to keep up with the hustle and bustle of the larger shop.

Raubeek wants to live comfortably, so wants ample compensation for this large repair shop in the Corellia Sector of Nar Shaddaa. The trandoshan has put his shop on the market to see what he can come up with for offers but has not had any real interest as yet. Raubeek also has a son, one that has just reached fifteen years old and is now considered an adult among the trandoshan culture.

Raubeek is extremely fond of his son to spite the fact that he has decided to join the underworld of Nar Shaddaa and not take over his father’s business. Entering the criminal underworld of Nar Shaddaa, Raubeek’s son quickly developed a love for the various gambling dens in the city. Sabacc can be a harsh mistress and lady luck does not always go the way of the bold. Credit is a wonderful thing, it keeps the party going even when you are out of cash. Eventually that bill comes due and someone has to pay the tab.

Loobey the Hutt is the stereotypical Hutt lesser crime boss. He keeps his fingers on the pulse of his territory and enjoys his cash. Upon hearing that he had Raubeek’s son in debt to him he took immediate steps and had him imprisoned in a small holding area in his territory. He hoped to leverage his son into turning over Raubeek’s business to him. This would expand his territory in a way that pleased Loobey as it took territory away from a rival minor Hutt that had wronged Loobey in the past. As one would imagine, Loobey is not the only underworld figure on Nar Shaddaa that took note of this situation and may look to take advantage.

Dio had heard about the situation with Raubeek and Loobey through various random encounters on the Smugglers Moon. The arrangement appeared to be just the sort of situation he had been looking for to enlarge the current shop that he shared with the Twi’lek Vu’thari. Both he and his partner had been looking to expand due to the high volume of work they had seen in recent months.

Upon the discovery of the attempt by Loobey to strong arm Raubeek out of his shop, a plan had started to form in Dio’s mind. He hoped to make a deal with the trandoshan Raubeek to free his son from the lesser Hutt’s men and then turn him over to his father to be ushered off the moon and beyond the reach of the Hutt. In exchange for the services of the Mandalorian and his friends, Raubeek would trade his shop for the smaller one that Dio and Vu’thari ran.

While waiting for the rest of the motley crew to arrive, Dio busied himself with a few more of the gambling droids that the Hutts had been sending his way for repairs. Many of the larger species on the Smugglers Moon didn’t take kindly to losing and had a habit of taking out their frustrations on the gambling machines and droids. It wasn’t the most exciting work in the world, but it helped Dio make a few extra credits and provided him access to many of the various gambling dens that he might not have access to otherwise.

After the impromptu dinner in the shop a few nights before, Dio had made several calls and determined that his plan might actually work, with a little luck on their side. Dio had contacted Raubeek and asked to meet with him about the possibility of purchasing his shop. Understandably, the trandoshan was reluctant to meet with Dio but he had mentioned a possible trade, shop for shop and this information had piqued the lizard’s interest. Dio called his accomplices in this caper and asked them to meet him at the shop right around this time.

A new shop was not something Corrine was too excited about. She agreed it would be good for business, but was skeptical about bring in too much attention, or any attention for that matter, that might allude to them being Mandalorians. While she was filled with pride and honor in her heritage, the single speck of danger that came with it at this time of war was too great a risk. She didn't need some angry Hutt calling in the Empire with news of a Mandalorian mercenary group with some knowledge of their inner workings and or potential military secrets. Plus, none of them wanted to be a slave for the Empire and not a single one of them would go down without a fight. Lives would be lost. Corrine was not about that.

As she didn't like to leave the shop for her own personal reasons, Corrine had a home close by. Literally. They were only a block away and she really only returned there to sleep. And most of the time she slept there, when one of the boys wasn't taking the couch in the lobby that is. She understood their need to crash was far greater than hers when she could just walk a minute outside and be in her own bed within another minute. But if she got there first, all bets were off. She was surprisingly irritable when waking up from a nap.

Today was not one of those days. She'd slept soundly in her own bed the previous night and had a fairly relaxing day up until then. So when Dio called them over to the shop she was dressed and ready for action not but ten minutes later. As usual, it seemed she was the first one there, save for Dio who called the meeting.

    "So what's the scoop?"

It was no secret that dinner was going to be the setting for the next foray with the trandoshan and his father. The Jedi knew what Dio was cooking up and it was a risky play, but there was a need for a bigger space. The opportunities that could come from such a space were endless, especially with his responsibilities

Vu’thari was all in, but something was not sitting right with him. It was fair to say that the Mandalorians trusted him at this point. If they did not, they would never include him on affairs that obviously placed them as Mandalorians. Like them, he too was in Imperial Hutta. Not Hutt Space—Imperial Hutta. This meant that one word, one tip, one mistake….it would have the Imperial forces at their doorstep, shooting first and asking questions later. In other words, these Mandalorians were trusting the twi’lek with their lives…this was what was not sitting well with him—he had been withholding information that could put them in danger going forward.

Coming out of his office from washing his hands, the Jedi made his way over to Dio and Cory. He knew Arturo would be in any minute, so he began with a sigh and then met the eyes of the Mandalorians, ”I have something to tell you. It is something that I have not been keeping from you for a long time—these are recent developments. Umm…”

Suddenly as if remembering something, Vu’thari looked over at SawDip and said, ”Music.”

The quirky astrogation droid chirped and suddenly soothing music filled the workshop. It was a common practice for Dio and Vu’thari to fill the area with music just in case they were being monitored. While it was a very small chance of such a thing, they were always careful. Bringing his attention back to the Mandalorians, the continued making sure to meet their eyes as he did so, “The recent development is that I have been recruited as a member of the Galactic Alliance. Years ago, I really didn’t see the point in such hopeless endeavors…but times change. Look around? Even Hutt Space is more dangerous with them here…”

    Pause.

”I tell you this now because I want to let you know what I am involved in before we go through with this.”

He looked over at Dio and said, ”I know what you do for the Mandalorians, using your skills to provide for the war effort. I admire it immensely--I would like to do the same thing. Smuggling weapons out of Hutt Space and providing for the Galactic Alliance. It would be a small operation, but an important one…who knows, maybe we can get the Hutts to desire independence once again down the stretch. Anyway, I felt that disclosure was necessary at this juncture…”

Nar Shaddaa was becoming something of a second home to Arturo. A decrepit, god-awful excuse of a home, sure, but a home nonetheless. The people, the places, every little detail reminded him of better times in better places. He was on his way to BEER-- Dio's pad.

He had done what he needed to, rising early to visit the markets before they got too busy.
He had mostly spent the time perusing stalls and admiring gear far too expensive for his tastes. He had bought himself breakfast, wolfed it down, and done a full circuit of the markets. Now, though, his mind had turned away from pointless consumerism to more serious matters concerning Trandoshans and a new workplace for his comrade. He still didn't include Vu'thari amongst their ranks; there was something about the twi'lek that irked Arturo. Besides, he would rather trust his gut than the words of an acquaintance who knew more than he let on.

It took him fifteen-odd minutes to reach the shop, a lot longer than it would usually take. Today, he was being extra cautious; he had spotted a group of aliens trailing him back in the markets. Unrelated to today's business, undoubtedly, but a threat all the same. He had done his best to lose them in the alleys and twisting bi-ways of the spaceport. Chances were they were looking to mug him; make a quick Cred shaking him down, and taking his weapons. Not that I'll ever let that happen. Stepping up to the entrance of the repair shop owned by his clan brother, Arturo shot one final look over his shoulder, scanning the adjacent buildings before vanishing inside.

The lock set with an audible click.

Damn, late again! He cursed himself, hearing voices echoing from one of the rooms further into the workshop. The office, maybe? Light on his feet, Arturo walked deeper into the shop, catching the tail-end of Vu'thari's revelation, a frown suddenly creasing the tracker's brow.
"--same thing. Smuggling weapons out of Hutt Space and providing for the Galactic Alliance. It would be a small operation, but an important one…who knows, maybe we can get the Hutts to desire independence once again down the stretch. Anyway, I felt that disclosure was necessary at this juncture…”

Walking into the room occupied by his kinsmen and the twi'lek, Arturo gave them all the once-over. "Ge'catra, vod." He said, inclining his head to Dio and Cory in turn. "Apologies, trouble at the market." He said in Basic, for Vu'thari's sake, and kept it as such from thereon. Taking a seat on one of the workbenches, Arturo settled down, arms folded against his armored chest. The revelation surprised him; he handled it well enough, though. "Does this complicate things?"

Diocletian went from amusement at Cory’s appearance to suspicion at the announcement from Vu’thari, and finally worry at the mention of trouble from Arturo. He nodded to the greeting from his clan brother and clasped him on the shoulder with one hand by way of greeting. This whole situation had gone from a discussion about a business opportunity to a veritable buffet of issues and entry was free. Leaning against his work bench, just his lower body armor on, Dio raised a hand to the bridge of his nose to try and stem the headache that had just decided to blossom there. Raising his other hand, he attempted to stop the conversation for a moment to get everything straight and in order.

“Alright alright.” He said, a little irritably. He looked and pointed at Arturo. “Unknown on complications as yet.” He turned to face Vu’thari and raised up off the bench where he leaned and sighed. The music was a nice touch, it would keep any unwanted ears out of their conversation and this looked to be a doozy on multiple fronts.

Vu’thari looked over at Dio and said, ” I know what you do for the Mandalorians, using your skills to provide for the war effort.

Gesturing to Arturo, Dio asked Vu’thari, “Well you heard my vod, does this complicate things? I appreciate your transparency but wonder at the timing of this decision. We are getting very public, very fast, especially if we take this business opportunity.” Dio’s body language indicated that he was concerned and curious more than agitated and angry at the revelation. All in the room could see the wheels turning in his head at the implications for the future as well as their current operation. As Vu’thari pointed out, this needed to be seen to before they went further.

“Well you heard my vod, does this complicate things? I appreciate your transparency but wonder at the timing of this decision. We are getting very public, very fast, especially if we take this business opportunity.”

There was tension in the room. But Vu’thari knew that this had to be addressed here and now. These were allies of the twi’lek—allies were in short supply in Nar Shaddaa. He owed it to them to be transparent, but being transparent was never supposed to be easy. He would continue to b upfront about everything…well, almost everything. He would tell them about that eventually, but that time was not now. He downed another long sip from his caf mug.

Wiping the grime from his brow after a day’s work, he paced the room as he usually did. Sometimes the twi’lek had to sit or lie down for hours working on a project that he was building or repairing, so the twi’lek rarely stayed still otherwise. His eyes met each of the Mandalorians and he stated, ”So yeah, does it complicate things? Sure it complicates things—but not with us. The stakes are higher. More public here in Nar Shaddaa? Yeah, a bit more. A bigger business and freighter work brings more customers and more credits—and by default more attention. Look, I don’t have to run this stuff through our business—especially because of the risk it brings to the Mandalorians who are connected to this…”

Pause. He stopped pacing and looked to each Mandalorian, ”So I guess it begs the bigger question…what is the end goal here in Nar Shaddaa? It is to get rich in the freighter repair business? Is it to make more credits and quietly support your people and the rebellion in small ways? Or is it even bigger…is the goal to start something here in Nar Shaddaa that flips the table, spilling the Imperial sabacc pieces on the dirty floor with the underworld no longer being run by Imperial Hutta? In the spirit of transparency, let’s go there…”

He started pacing again and took another long pull from his caf mug. It was clear Vu’thari was not comfortable talking about this, but it was even more clear that the alien was even less comfortable not talking about it…

”I have something to tell you. It is something that I have not been keeping from you for a long time—these are recent developments. Umm… Music.”

Corrine moved over to one of the tables and sat down, crossing her legs, as she listened to Vu'thari start to admit something. Apparently it must have been important if he remembered their house rule of drowning out any important and secret talks out with music. Just in case someone might be listening. Still, these conversations had a way of getting into Corrine's head. She didn't like drama, or issues, or arguments. It was so much easier just to say what you wanted with your fists. Or blasters. She liked those conversations

“The recent development is that I have been recruited as a member of the Galactic Alliance. Years ago, I really didn’t see the point in such hopeless endeavors…but times change. Look around? Even Hutt Space is more dangerous with them here…”

What did he just say? The Galatic Alliance? Vu'thari? What was he going to be a mechanic for them? Not a very dangerous endeavor but it did beg the question of why he was mentioning it to them. Was his hope of getting them to join too? While the war had every possibility of the two sides joining up against the Empire, she had no desire to run into their problems. For now, the rebels were on their own until Mandalore officially stepped in.

”I tell you this now because I want to let you know what I am involved in before we go through with this. I know what you do for the Mandalorians, using your skills to provide for the war effort. I admire it immensely--I would like to do the same thing. Smuggling weapons out of Hutt Space and providing for the Galactic Alliance. Anyway, I felt that disclosure was necessary at this juncture…”

Ah. So that was his plan. Very similar to their own. Smuggling weapons. That made more sense than him flying away in one of their corvettes as a meager mechanic. She really ought to give the Twi'lek more credit, but she hadn't exactly seen him do anything of noteworthy to earn the respect she gave her brothers. Oh if only she knew what he was really capable of, being a Jedi and all.

"Ge'catra, vod. Apologies, trouble at the market. Does this complicate things?"

Returning his greeting, "Ge'catra. Trouble you said? What trouble?"

“Alright alright. Unknown on complications as yet...Well you heard my vod, does this complicate things? I appreciate your transparency but wonder at the timing of this decision. We are getting very public, very fast, especially if we take this business opportunity.”

"And we don't want double the suspicions upon us if we're smuggling out weapons to both fronts." Awkwardly looking between her brothers she then added, "If that's what you claim we were doing..." Just because he claimed he knew what was going on didn't mean she wanted to admit he was right.

”So yeah, does it complicate things? Sure it complicates things—but not with us. The stakes are higher. More public here in Nar Shaddaa? Yeah, a bit more. A bigger business and freighter work brings more customers and more credits—and by default more attention. He made some good points. What was their goal here? Corrine looked to her brothers and pursed her lips in question. Sure getting rich would be nice. But helping their people was the real purpose. At least for her. She wanted to restore glory to her family and that meant helping out Clan Eldar. Breaking down the Sith and the Imperials would be another wonderful bonus if that happened along the way. Still, Corrine wasn't set out to do this.

Arturo let the conversation trail off, already mulling over Vu'thari's words. Quiet contemplation was what the tracker needed most right now. He had always known something was off about the Twi'lek, but now he knew for sure that his suspicions had been correct. Smuggling for the Galactic Alliance....Gods above! That's just what we need right now. Thin-lipped, scowling, Arturo's thoughts branched off in two separate directions as he shifted awkwardly against the workbench, one rivaling the other. What to do...

A spark in his consciousness reminded him he had missed something; Cory had asked him a question, and he looked to her as if he'd only just noticed her presence. "Just thugs being fools." He answered, smirking slightly. "They tried following me, perhaps to give me a kicking somewhere nice and secluded, take my stuff. Hmph! Should've chosen an easier mark, didn't take much to shake 'em." Anyways, Vuthari...smuggling for the GA. Those thugs aren't the only fools on Nar Shaddaa. Staring over at the Twi'lek, Arturo attempted to get the measure of Dio's associate and business partner to no avail.

"We've no outstanding issues with the GA..." He began, an old human quote coming to mind as he spoke. "And as the saying goes, 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend,' so why not? You've dealt with him more than I have, Dio. If you trust him..." Now it was Arturo's turn to trail off. He had never been one for words, not one for thinking either. He was a blunt instrument, a man of simple taste and tact. He could follow orders, and sometimes give them, assuming they carried little weight. He could pry the teeth from an Acklay's mouth whilst it slept, put bolt after bolt between the eyes of a Coruscani ogre and, given ample room and a rifle, could clip the wings of a Jyykle vulture at a hundred and fifty meters.

Politics though, and the damn subterfuge... This was where he erred most. He had no time for dishonesty; he was bad at it. He'd leave that to Dio, and Vu'thari. It was their business, and for the most part, their concern. That didn't mean Arturo was going to sit this one out. He'd play his part, albeit from a position of support. He was certain they could run rings around the Trandoshan on their own, and manipulate the situation so that all parties benefited from it. Apart from the loan sharks who kidnapped the boy...

"Listen, whatever you decide... I've got your backs. It's our people, sure. But it's your business and your call. I know you'll do what you believe's best...for all of us."

Diocletian listened to Cory and Arturo lay it out for him, his eyes settled on Vu’thari. He had been in battle with the twi’lek before, both in the business world and on the world of Kashyyyk. Time had been spent together and an investment was there in blood and sweat. They had basically the same goals in mind, get rid of the yoke of Sith imperialism once and for all. It was just that Vu’thari had a different idea about how to reach that goal. Their difference was location, Dio was Mandalorian and the twi’lek was not. Their final destinations were the same to spite different beginnings on that road.

The Galactic Alliance, Dio didn’t really know a lot about them to be honest. A rag tag group of rebels hiding from the two Sith empires was about the extent of his knowledge. Maybe this would be good and Dio would learn more about them. Possibly he could drag up some new contacts in this deal. Who knows. Dio leaned back against the table, crossed his arms over his chest in a bit of a defensive gesture and made the call.

[color=aqua= “It changes nothing. Vu’thari has my trust and I have yours.” [/color] he said looking between Arturo and Cory. He then looked at Vu’thari, his blue eyes blazing almost white in intensity. “He will ensure that the relationship with the Galactic Alliance does not bleed over to us. If it does, he will tell us, so we can handle it.” He paused for a moment before taking a deep breath and nodding to himself.

“Raubeek. He has agreed to meet with us. I let slip that I might have a solution to his problem through the underworld grape vine, it apparently got to him this morning as he hit me up on the comm. He asked to meet with us today.” He paused to look around the room, gauging their reaction to the news before continuing. He wanted to be sure they were in before he went on with the specifics.

“I know where Loobey has the kid, its in a storehouse across town in the primary Hutt sector. That means security, and not the kind you get from a good savings plan. We will have to break the kid out and get him off planet as quick as possible.” Again he paused, to allow this information to sink in. He needed them to know what they were up against and what they were doing.

“The deal will be to trade our shop for his as payment for the deed. I am not sure how he will react or even if he will take us up on the deal, but we will see. So, who’s in?” Diocletian sat back and crossed his arms over his chest and looked at all three of them in turn.

He had felt out of place for years among the Mandalorians, but they all had been steadfast allies in a dangerous place. He was an alien and not part of their culture, but shared opposition and shared danger had a way of bringing unlikely beings together.

“It changes nothing. Vu’thari has my trust and I have yours. He will ensure that the relationship with the Galactic Alliance does not bleed over to us. If it does, he will tell us, so we can handle it.”

It was a surprise to hear that sentiment, but Vu’thari would have been the same way with him, to be fair. It was settled—they would proceed forward. How much smuggling would come through their new place of business was something he would truly have to take some time to think on. The Jedi eyed Dio with a grim nod before verbalizing, “That is good to hear, Dio.”

The twi’lek looked at the other two mandalorians and eyed them, adding, “Know that I trust all of you. I have for the last five years. Just living here and having this conversation means trusting each other with our lives. Melodramatic? Maybe. But it is the reality…”

Dio switched gears from the awkward conversation and got to business…as he always did.

“Raubeek. He has agreed to meet with us. I let slip that I might have a solution to his problem through the underworld grape vine, it apparently got to him this morning as he hit me up on the comm. He asked to meet with us today.”

Looking over at the Mandalorian, he inquired, “Are we expecting anything ‘untoward’ from him at this meeting?"

Once Dio answered that question, Vu’thari listened as he continued…

“I know where Loobey has the kid, it’s in a storehouse across town in the primary Hutt sector. That means security, and not the kind you get from a good savings plan. We will have to break the kid out and get him off planet as quick as possible.”

Listening, Vu’thari questioned again to make sure he understand all the variables, “Ok, so this storehouse—where is it? Corellia Sector still? Do we know if it has electronic security or just muscle? Is the prison cell the maglock variety or the old tumbler kind?”

After answering his questions, he listened further…

“The deal will be to trade our shop for his as payment for the deed. I am not sure how he will react or even if he will take us up on the deal, but we will see. So, who’s in?”

Looking around, the twi’lek spoke up, “I am in. I think its worth the risk. Even if it doesn’t pan out, I think you have to jump on these opportunities if they come up…”

"Just thugs being --- to shake 'em."

Arturo would remember that he owed Corrine a question, to which he'd answer amid the middle of all this "share time." But she paid it little mind other than giving him a smile in recognition.

"We've no outstanding --- all of us."

So it seemed one of their allies was alright with helping the GA. Anything to hurt the Sith, right? Corrine wasn't so sure, but she felt like listening to everyone else's words first before she began to say her own.

“It changes nothing --- can handle it.”

“That is good --- is the reality…”

"Yeah but do we even want to take that chance?" She felt bad arguing with her friends, but all the options needed to be put on the table. Dio however had other plans.

“Raubeek. He has --- with us today.”

Just avoid the subject all together. A great plan. Well, to be fair, Vu'thari kind of sprung this all on them spur of the moment. They weren't here to talk about his Galactic Alliance drama. They were here to talk about business and getting them a new place to work and talk shop. Then they could worry about his smuggling his goods in and out. When everything else was secure. That's how she felt about it at least.

    “I know where --- So, who’s in?”

"This is what you all have decided to do. For what's best for us and our business. So of course I'm in. We'll bust that kid out so fast the Hutt's won't know what hit 'em."

Sorry everyone if my posts look messy and hard to weird. I got yelled at and disciplined for "plot stuffing". So now i have to really watch what I write. I can't change my style so this is how I have to handle it. Sorry if it is too much

Diocletian listened to his merry band of malcontents for a few moments, rubbing his chin with one hand in thought. Listening to Cory and Vu’thari, he nodded to both their concerns and their statements about the situation. He liked that they could talk things out like this and not have to worry about political agendas or their pecking order in an organization, they were a band of friends and that meant something.

“The meeting should be fairly straightforward, either he accepts our offer of assistance or he does not. It is not the meeting I am concerned with, it is the opportunity cost of the mission after that concerns me. We will make enemies with this one friends, if anyone finds out it was us.”

He chose to pause a moment after that declaration, letting his words sink in and their repercussions. Each of them was imagining a myriad of possible scenarios more horrible that the next, he was sure, but it was necessary. They had all come clean to this point and he wanted that particular elephant in the room out for all to see. No secrets if Dio could help it, or at least as few as possible.

After a few heartbeats, he continued, “The storehouse is in the Corellia sector and security should be primarily physical, camera’s locks and the like. I am sure there will be at least a few guards, but I do not expect to fight all of Loobey’s bullies in one place. The locks, according to my sources, are a variety so we should be prepared for both eventualities.”

He looked over at the chron they kept on the wall, primarily so the two hardworking shop owners wouldn’t lose track of time. “Its about an hour till the meeting time I agreed upon. Vu’thari and I will go. I want you two, indicating Cory and Arturo with is hands, to be ready in case the lizard isn’t on the level. Be close and come in heavy if we yell.”

Turning back to his twi’lek business partner he tossed Vu’thari a big smile, “Well partner, let’s do this.”
