Now, Contrary to your beliefs, Metal hasn't really changed over the years. Vocalists are usually Screamers/Shouters rather than Crooners(A trait found in ALL metal). I don't care about those bands at all. But the truth is the Truth: Metal is relatively basic and hasn't changed since Sabbath and Zeppelin came into existance. All that's changed is the Sub-Genres, such as Thrash, Death, Power, Black, Progressive, etc. And before you say anything, I get my information from both a documentary on the Metal Culture(Made by a Professional Anthropologist[I forget his name, now]) AND a class on the History of Rock and Roll. I've listened to all sorts of Metal and all sorts of Bands that can be classified as metal and they all have many of the same qualities. All have a bigger focus on Bass than other Music Genres, A Bigger Focus on the Guitar Solo, a Bigger Focus on playing lower octives, Screaming/loud/Raw vocals.

Hell, Bon Jovi could be considered Metal at times! I, personally, wouldn't consider them Metal, but facts are facts, and at times the most unlikely groups can be considered Metal.


As I've said before: Metal is Basic Music. The Requirements for being Metal can be achieved so easily by bands...and yet Metal music is also the most Unique Music in Decades. Sort of an Oxymoron: It's so simple, it's complicated. It SHOULD be easy to be Metal...But it's not. And you can't really understand it....Metal is so simple, so EASY....that it's hard to explain....It's hard to actually BE Metal! So many people THINK they're Metal, or are Metal Fans...and yet they don't see the whole spectrum. The Don't see that Metal is the Music of Rebels...You can't be a Metal Fan and sing Pop...You can't be a Metal Fan and Rap to Rap music...You can't Be a Metal Fan and not embrace it openly, 24/7!


Metal is Looked down upon in Mainstream Society because it's so simple. People want a pretty face, a hot body, and lots and lots of lipsynching, simply because it's so complex to do that it's easier to understand. No matter what happens in society, Metal will NEVER be accepted to the degree it used to be....And that's what makes Metal Heads even more passionate about their Music.


Metal is Metal...Metal is Simple....Metal is Diverse...Metal is SOCIETY...But Society doesn't recognize itself in the mirror. "Ignorance is bliss".


Now I've rambled on and probably gotten off topic more than once. But still, I've educated more people on the Way a Metal Head Thinks and on the Metal Culture.

I would have to agree with Kurt on this

Maiden and AC/DC are classic rock, at the time they would have been considered as Metal but now, with more sub-genres popping up they have been moved back to just rock

they are no where near what many would consider to be Metal

Maiden is Classified as British New Wave Metal. Always has been, always Will be.(First wave of Metal being added to include Zeppelin and Sabbath into the Metal picture.) As has Judas Priest. NOW, Metallica is still Metal, despite what anyone says. They've Drifted away from their Roots in Thrash Metal, sure, but Metal Music is also about doing what the hell you want: Metallica really put that into Context when they sued Napster, Cut their Hair, and Drifted from Thrash Metal. Anthrax ALSO changed Genres. They went from Thrash to Nu from time to time("Bring Da Noize w/Public Enemy").

Most wouldn't Consider AC/DC to be Metal, but they're really Metal Pioneers. AC/DC could be classified as Arena Metal, along with Twisted Sister, Alice Cooper, and KISS(TS, AC, & KISS could also be classified as Glam Metal).
